Spider-Man fame actor Tom Holland was rushed to the hospital recently, following an injury on the sets of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in Leavesden Studios in Watford, Herts. Reportedly, the actor was performing a minor stunt on his fourth standalone MCU movie when he cracked his head and suffered a concussion after a bad fall.

The actor was quickly rushed to the hospital with a woman, who is believed to be a stunt double. While the actor is said to be making a recovery, a concussion usually takes days to heal. This unfortunate accident has delayed the shoot for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Tom Holland is on a break as a precaution.

Meanwhile, social media is flooded with concern for the actor and loyal Spider-Man fans are expressing their shock and sending him wishes for a speedy recovery.

More on Tom Holland's injury in our story.

Tom Holland's latest injury has Reddit fans divided

Tom Holland has entered a Reddit discussion, following his recent injury on the sets of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. While the injury was reportedly minor and the actor was also seen attending an event (post his injury) with his co-star Zendaya, it has raised fans' concerns over the actor's safety.

The recent incident is not the first time an actor has been injured on sets, and it will certainly not be the last. Dangerous action and fight sequences, particularly in historical, superhero, and fantasy TV shows and movies, have led the fans to question: Should actors do their own stunts?

Following Tom Holland's injury, a Reddit user commented:

''Honestly this is why I think Actors shouldn’t do their own stunts. Should leave it to the trained professional stunt men. I think Machete for example had a quote that said he doesn’t want to take the job away from someone else and said he’s not getting any bonus points anyway for doing his own stunts.''

This comment certainly holds value, especially after Tom Holland's recent injury, which not only endangered his well-being on set but also delayed the movie's shoot for months. Since Marvel movies are always high on action and fight sequences, it makes sense for a stunt artist to stand in for the actor. Stunt doubles are specially trained for this job, and many fans believe that actors should not perform their own stunts in a movie.

Proving that every coin has two sides, another Reddit user pointed out:

''The beauty of actors doing their own stunts is movies don't get cut up to shit for takes where the body double has to fill in. Think John wick, the choreography is so crisp and good because you don't have cuts every damn 5 seconds to showcase the body double doing the scene, because it's just Keanu doing the stunts with stuntman.''

This comment rightly points out exactly why productions choose to have actors perform their own stunts. In Hollywood, many actors (like Jackie Chan and Tom Cruise) are known for performing their own stunts, which certainly adds charm to their projects. Not only are actors highly revered, but the result is more crisp and seamless, with minimal cuts.

While this seems like a solid counter, many fans argued that Tom Holland's Spider-Man literally wears a mask, making it easy for the production to use a stunt double. Additionally, since almost all Marvel and DCU superheroes wear costumes, capes, and masks, it is fairly easy for them to use stunt doubles compared to other action drama actors.

Another Reddit user rightly pointed out:

''His double has already been doing most of the stunts people have seen. There comes a point where he's going to have to do some of this, his ability to do that part was a big part of why he was hired.''

Many media outlets have reported that Tom Holland was performing a minor stunt when the injury happened. This makes the above comment totally justifiable, as any action hero would have to perform some basic stunts on his own. Being an MCU actor is certainly not easy, but Tom Holland has performed many of his stunts in the past, which proves that the actor is more than capable of handling these intense action sequences, and this was just an accident.

This Reddit comment nicely sums up this entire debate on Tom Holland's injury as:

''This is why I'm torn on actors doing their own stunts. On the one hand, it seriously takes me out of the scene when directors have to cover for actors not doing any action scenes with constant cuts to hide faces and shaky cams. On the other, it does suck for a production to come to a screeching halt when a main actor gets injured. There should be a nice middle ground.''

While it would be nice to have a middle ground, there sadly isn't. The entertainment industry can be unpredictable. Even with the best technology, CGI, and stunt doubles, accidents on film sets happen and actors get hurt. To avoid this, film sets should have strict safety protocols, regular risk checks, trained stunt coordinators, and proper medical support on standby.

We wish a speedy recovery to Tom Holland and are looking forward to seeing him back in action in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
