Regretting You, the Paramount Pictures adaptation of Colleen Hoover's 2019 novel of the same title, has just finished production and will be coming out on October 24, 2025, as Paramount Pictures announced.

The film is directed by Josh Boone and penned by Susan McMartin and stars a prominent roster of actors, with Allison Williams, McKenna Grace, Dave Franco, Mason Thames, Willa Fitzgerald, and Scott Eastwood.

The plot revolves around the intricate relationship between a mother and daughter as they deal with the consequences of a fatal accident that reveals family secrets and strains their relationship.

Production and Development

Regretting You was originally announced in August 2024, with director Josh Boone coming on board. Boone directed The Fault in Our Stars, raising the bar with this adaptation. Susan McMartin, who also worked on After as a screenplay writer, shared writing credits for the screenplay.

The production company behind the venture included Robert Kulzer, Brunson Green, Anna Todd, and Flavia Viotti, with Colleen Hoover acting as executive producer.

Filming commenced in Atlanta in March 2025 and concluded early April, taking the movie into post-production, where music, editing, and visual effects are being completed. Paramount Pictures will release the movie in the US.

Plot and themes

Regretting You tracks Morgan Grant, who sacrificed her own aspirations to bring up her daughter, Clara. Their already tenuous relationship is strained to the breaking point following a fatal car accident that kills two members of the family, including Morgan's husband and Clara's father. The aftermath makes Morgan and Clara face long-standing secrets, deceptions, and regrets.

Based on the official logline, the movie examines the effect of bereavement and the healing process since both daughter and mother need to learn how to reach out and heal. The story revolves around the complexity of family dynamics, trying to forgive, and moving towards understanding and acceptance.

Release date and expectations

Regretting You is planned for a broad theatrical release in the United States on October 24, 2025. The movie is likely to interest readers of Colleen Hoover's books and viewers who are attracted to sentimental family dramas. With Josh Boone at the helm and a cast including both big stars and up-and-coming actors, excitement about the adaptation is running high.

Link to other Colleen Hoover adaptations

Regretting You is just one of multiple Colleen Hoover books being developed for the big screen, hot on the heels of It Ends With Us earlier this year and upcoming developments on Verity and Reminders of Him. Executive producer credits going to Hoover, however, bode well for a tight alignment between film and book.

Regretting You promises to delve into themes of loss, forgiveness, and family ties, making Regretting You a standout addition to the wave of Colleen Hoover novels heading to theaters.
