Regretting You, directed by Josh Boone, stars Allison Williams and McKenna Grace as a mother and a daughter trying to mend their relationship after a personal crisis. It's a romantic drama scheduled to be released this fall. Paramount Pictures has just revealed the film's first trailer, offering a glimpse into its bittersweet world.

Before unpacking the details, let's look at the film's official plot synopsis. It reads:

"Based on the bestselling book, REGRETTING YOU introduces audiences to Morgan Grant and her daughter Clara as they explore what’s left behind after a devastating accident reveals a shocking betrayal and forces them to confront family secrets, redefine love, and rediscover each other."

It's another film that will borrow its narrative from a Colleen Hoover novel after the 2024 film, It Ends with Us. The upcoming adaptation of Hoover's romantic drama also features a cast of Dave Franco, Mason Thames, Willa Fitzgerald, and Scott Eastwood. Let's see what the trailer reveals about this new film.

The newly released trailer offers a glimpse into the strained relationship between Morgan (Allison Williams) and her daughter, Clara (McKenna Grace).

It begins on a playful note where Clara lies to her mother, even though she is honest with her aunt, Jenny (Willa Fitzgerald), as she spends time with Miller (Mason Thames). However, it all changes when her father, Chris (Scott Eastwood), dies in a car accident with Jenny.

It takes Clara and Morgan on individual journeys. Jenny's husband Jonah (Dave Franco) wonders whether Jenny and Jonah were having an affair. He mentions it to Morgan.

Clara, on the other hand, goes through a profound grieving process, trying to recover the loss of her late father, while building a healthier relationship with her mother.

Before Regretting You, director Josh Boone has also worked on other adaptations of best-selling novels. He previously co-created the Paramount+ series, The Stand, based on an eponymous novel by Stephen King.

In 2014, Boone helmed the adaptation of Josh Green's The Fault in Our Stars, a tender romance drama, starring Shailene Woodley as a cancer-patient teenager, who goes through a life-changing journey once she falls in love with Ansel Elgort's character.

Boone's latest film seems to be trading in similar emotional beats. It shows a blossoming romance between two teenagers, as they face a crisis beyond their control. It leads them on a journey of self-discovery as they learn to be comfortable in their skin.
