Universal Pictures has pushed back the release date for its upcoming horror film starring Oscar-winning Jessica Chastain, Other Mommy. While the film was originally slated for a May 2026 release, the movie is now slated to hit theaters in October 2026.
Other Mommy is a product of Universal Pictures and Atomic Monster and will be based on the novel by Josh Malerman called Incidents Around the House. The movie is also set to feature other prominent Hollywood stars like Arabella Olivia Clark and Jay Duplass in leading roles.
At the time of writing, no official reason has been announced for the delay in release for the movie by Universal Pictures.

Other Mommy will feature the story of a young girl as she battles a spirit trying to take possession of her body
The story of Other Mommy is based on Josh Malerman's novel, Incidents Around the House, where Chastain and Duplass will play the role of a couple whose house is haunted by a sinister being, desperately trying to take control of their young daughter's body, only if she allows it to do so.
The story is quite chilling in nature, and with the immaculate depiction of their respective roles by every actor, the Atomic Monster production will be one that fans are very eager to see. The movie is being directed by Rob Savage, who is popular for his previous works in Host and The Boogeyman.
The movie is being produced by James Wan and Atomic Monster and will feature Michael Clear, Macdara Kelleher, Rob Savage, Josh Malerman, Judson Scott, and Ryan Lewis as executive producers. Nathan Elston, of Succession fame, is responsible for writing the script adaptation of Malerman's incredible novel.
While the film was originally slated for a May 2026 release, it has now been pushed back to October 2026. This means that the release will now clash with that of Paramount's The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, making things a lot more challenging for the Universal Pictures horror film. Moreover, it is now scheduled to release just a week ahead of Sony's Street Fighter.

Ahead of Other Mommy, 2025 itself is set to be quite a busy year for Universal Pictures, as the production house has many upcoming releases in the last quarter of the year. 19th September will see the release of another horror movie, Him. Beyond that, Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie is slated for release on September 26, followed by Black Phone 2 on October 17, and Wicked: For Good on November 21. Universal's final release for 2025 will be Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 on December 5.
