Remain: Everything we know so far about M. Night Shyamalan's upcoming supernatural thriller

M. Night Shyamalan will bring stars like Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor together for his next project called Remain. Recently, actors including Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty, and more were added to the film. According to the latest Deadline report, more might be added later.

Interestingly, the film is being developed alongside a novel after Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks conceived an idea. The latter is writing the novel, and it will be released later this year. As for the film, it will be released next year.

Shyamalan is known for his twisted concepts, and his films have made over $3 billion at the box office. Some of his best works include The Sixth Sense (1999), Signs (2002), Split (2016), and more.

Nicholas Sparks has written 25 novels to date, and all of them have made it to the New York Times bestsellers list.

Shyamalan's Blinding Edge Pictures is producing the movie, which has produced 13 out of his 16 movies. Other than that, the production company is also attached to projects including John Erick Dowdle's Devil (2010), Ishana Night Shyamalan's The Watchers (2024), and Celine Held and Logan George's Caddo Lake (2024). It has also produced a couple of TV series dubbed Wayward Pines (2015–16) and Servant (2019–23).

Interestingly, the company paid $10,000 a month for Cranston Street Armory, a historic building that will be featured in the movie.

The film will follow Jake Gyllenhaal's Tate Donovan and Phoebe Dynevor's Wren. According to an exclusive People Magazine story, the story follows

"New York architect Tate Donovan as he arrives in Cape Cod to design his best friend’s summer home. Donovan is looking for a fresh start after his recent discharge from a psychiatric facility where he was treated for acute depression. Still grappling with the loss of his beloved sister, Donovan meets Wren, a young woman who makes him challenge everything he knows about his logical and controlled world."

When will Remain release?

As of this writing, Remain is set for a release on October 23, 2026. An untitled Jordan Peele film is set to be released on the same day.

The month will see a couple more untitled films coming, one directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu (October 2) and an untitled Blumhouse Productions film (October 9). An animated movie based on the popular series Avatar: The Last Airbender, called The Legend of Aang, will also be released in October 2026.
