Return to Silent Hill marks the return of the Silent Hill film series that began with the 2006 supernatural horror film Silent Hill.

The new film serves as the third adaptation based on the eponymous video game series from Konami. They all revolve around the mysterious ghost town of Silent Hill that shapes how its characters look at their past or present. The upcoming film will introduce a new set of characters like James Sutherland who will be drawn to the mysteries of this town.

Christophe Gans returns to direct this third installment after helming the 2006 film. Gans has also co-written the screenplay with Sandra Vo-Anh and Will Schneider based on the game Silent Hill 2 by Keiichiro Toyama. The cast includes Jeremy Irvine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Evie Templeton, and more. It is set to be released on January 23, 2026, in the United States.

What is the plot of Return to Silent Hill?

This is the third film from the film series and is being described as a reboot of the franchise. The previous chapters included characters like Heather Mason / Sharon Da Silva, Harry Mason / Christopher Da Silva, Dahlia Gillespie, Vincent Smith, Claudia Wolf, and more.

However, the upcoming third chapter will revolve around James Sutherland, a man who heads to the ghost town after the painful end of his relationship with Mary. Pyramid Head will return.

Per Variety, the official plot synopsis reads:

"When a mysterious letter from her calls him back to Silent Hill, James finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. While James desperately searches for Mary, he encounters terrifying creatures and begins to unravel the mystery of what happened to the town. But as he descends deeper into the darkness the secrets he uncovers lead to a horrifying truth, and James finds himself struggling to hold on long enough to save his one true love."

What to expect from Return to Silent Hill?

The filmis produced by Molly Hassell (Hassell Free Productions), Victor Hadida (Davis Films), and David Wulf. It is backed by Cineverse, who acquired the film's distribution rights in May 2025.

In the official statement, Cineverse Chief Motion Pictures Officer Yolanda Macias said,

“We have been anything but silent about our mission to champion proven IP as a central piece of our theatrical strategy. These two films (Return to Silent Hill and Silent Night, Deadly Night) will represent event viewing that meets fan demand for new releases from their favorite franchises and an opportunity for them to reach a new audience.”

The Iconic Events Releasing CFO/COO and co-founder Mark Rupp further added,
