The Beatles were and still remain one of the most celebrated bands in the history of Western music. The band comprised four members: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Sam Mendes is developing four films about The Beatles members, called The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event. Each film will focus on each member.

Paul Mescal had earlier been cast to play Paul McCartney, and now, Sam Mendes has found an actress to play McCartney's first wife, Linda McCartney. As Deadline reports, Saoirse Ronan has been cast as Linda McCartney in The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event.

Saoirse Ronan will star in Sam Mendes' Beatles film

Since a specific story is yet to be confirmed by Mendes, Saoirse Ronan will most likely be seen as Linda McCartney, mainly in the film about Paul McCartney. However, since the band members were frequently a part of each other's lives, we might see her featured in the other films as well.

Linda McCartney was a successful photographer and also played the keyboard and worked on multiple songs with her husband, Paul McCartney. She was the first woman photographer to be featured on the cover of Rolling Stone. Linda was also a vegetarian and an animal rights activist who wrote vegetarian cookbooks to further fight for the cause she believed in.

Ronan has proved herself as an actress by playing a wide range of characters, which also brought her four Academy Award Nominations. Some of her notable roles include playing Briony Tallis in Atonement (2007), Christine McPherson in Lady Bird (2017), Mary, Queen of Scots in Mary Queen of Scots (2018), Josephine March, aka Jo, in Little Women (2019), Rona in The Outrun (2024), and Rita in Blitz (2024). Other than The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event, Ronan is set to star as Maria in Bad Apples (2025) and in Deep Cuts opposite Austin Butler.

Joseph Quinn, who is most popular for playing Eddie Munson in Stranger Things (2022), Geta in Gladiator II (2024), and Johnny Storm aka Human Torch in The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), has been cast as George Harrison. Harris Dickinson, who you might remember playing Frankie in Beach Rats (2017), Chase Andrews in Where the Crawdads Sing (2022), Samuel in Babygirl (2024), and Nathan in Urchin (2025), has been cast as John Lennon.

Barry Keoghan, known for playing George Mills in Dunkirk (2017), Dominic Kearney in The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), and Oliver Quick in Saltburn (2023), has been cast as Ringo Starr. The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event is written by Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne. The films will be produced by Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris, Julie Pastor, and Alexandra Derbyshire. The production companies behind the films are Neal Street Productions, Apple Corps, and Sony Pictures.

This event of four films will be released in 2028. It is the first of its like, four films releasing together, but it will be an interesting experiment to witness. This is also the first time that both the band and Apple Corps Ltd. have allowed a team to adapt the lives and works of the band members into not only one but four scripted films. Thus, the stakes are quite high with this one. Sam Mendes has a strong cast and even stronger story and music, which will hopefully work in his favor.
