Scary Movie 6 to bring back franchise regulars Regina Hall and Anna Faris

Regina Hall and Anna Faris will return for the next Scary Movie franchise installment, set to be released on June 12, 2026. They will be reprising their roles as Brenda and Cindy, respectively.

Marlon Wayans, one of the creative voices behind this franchise, shared this update through an Instagram post. He revealed that the two series regulars will be returning for another adventure in this satirical horror franchise. After he teased their return, Hall and Faris shared a joint statement, expressing their excitement for the project:

“We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).”

The film marks the franchise's return to the Wayans brothers, who started it with their 2000 release. Keenen Ivory Wayans directed the movie, while Shawn and Marlon Wayans worked on the script and starred in it. They also collaborated on a sequel in 2001. However, the studio brought other people in to work on the next three franchise installments.

That's why the upcoming movie is a reunion for the Wayans brothers with the creative property that they established in the early 2000s. It will also see them working again with Regina Hall and Anna Faris.

What else do we know about Scary Movie 6?

The Scary Movie franchise has not been a critical darling, earning mixed or negative reception from critics. However, it has been a massively successful affair in terms of box office earnings. The first movie earned over $278 million against its reported $19 million budget. A year later, the sequel earned over $141 million, proving its overall appeal.

With these figures, the movies became some of the highest-grossing R-rated horror projects. Unfortunately, the brothers couldn't carry forward their creative child in the franchise's next three iterations. However, Scary Movie 6 will bring them back to the series.

Shawn and Marlon Wayans will once again co-write, co-produce, and co-star in a franchise installment. Keenen Ivory Wayans will co-write and co-produce, while Michael Tiddes will direct the movie. The filmmaker has previously collaborated with the Wayans on A Haunted House, Fifty Shades of Black, Sextuplets, and Naked.

The project was announced at the 2024 CinemaCon as the Wayans brothers' return to the movie series. In a following statement, the three brothers said:

"Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Wayans told us, “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

Jonathan Glickman, from Miramax, added:

“We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise. The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen, and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”
