In a recent press conference, Donald Trump said he has no plans to affect James Bond movies amidst the talks about a 100% tax on films made outside America.
The statement comes after a tweet made by the U.S. President on May 5 that stated:
"I am authorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands. WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!"
According to Donald Trump, the U.S. film industry is falling behind because other countries are giving better deals to filmmakers. He believes this hurts Hollywood and could be a risk to national security and a way to spread propaganda.
In the press conference, Trump continued the topic by adding,
"We’re going to be doing some tariffs to get them, because a lot of them have left this country."
Amidst the talks, he mentioned James Bond by adding,
"But James Bond has nothing to worry about, that I can tell you. And you know, Sean Connery was a friend of mine. Sean Connery was responsible for my getting zoning in Aberdeen."
"He said, ‘Let the bloody bloke build his golf courses.’ I was like four years into the process, and it was impossible in Aberdeen. And he, I don't know, he just stood up one day, and he said, and as soon as he said that, I got the approvals in about two minutes. He was a great guy, Sean Connery."
Sir Sean Connery was the first actor to play James Bond in films, starting with Dr. No in 1962. He starred in seven Bond movies and shaped the character as a tough spy.
