Everything about the upcoming movie adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility

The actor has even made a cryptic post on her Instagram account, which refers to the new film, even though there is no information about it in the post at all. We witness Jones posing with a copy of the Jane Austen novel, which has heightened the curiosity among netizens.

Working Title and Focus Features have joined hands to aid the film project. From the house of Working Title, we have Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan as the producers of the film, joining Jo Wallett and November Pictures' India Flint.

Author Diana Reid will be penning the script for Sense and Sensibility. Reid is known for her written works in novels, including Love & Virtue (2021), Seeing Other People (2022), and Signs of Damage (2025).

Jane Austen's novel of 1811, Sense and Sensibility, was her earliest novel. It follows the plot of the Dashwood family, who are hit by economic struggles followed by the loss of the family's patriarch, Henry Dashwood. Now the family is left with his wife, who is his first wife, along with her three daughters, Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret.

However, the story primarily centers on the two sisters, Elinor and Marianne, and their individual personal journeys in love and romance. The novel portrays the realities faced by middle-class families at that time period, along with depicting issues and the internal conflicts of women at that time as well.

One important fact about the novel is that when Jane Austen published the novel, she published it under the guise of anonymity. It was written as 'By a Lady' due to the patriarchal conditions of that time in relation to women's participation in literature and art.

This is not the first time the novel has been adapted into a film or a series. Examples include the 1971 television series directed by David Giles, which had the same name. In 1995, director Ang Lee also adapted it into a film, starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. The most recent one is the 2024 television film, having the homonym, helmed by Roger M. Bobb.

Sense and Sensibility, as mentioned in its title, addresses the dichotomy of the age-old debate on rational thought versus intuition, the mind versus the heart-where actually both must coexist in order to function in human life. Elinor, the character that will be portrayed by Daisy Edgar-Jones, represents the 'mind' part of the human psyche, as she is portrayed as a pragmatic person. It is as opposed to her sister Marienne, who is all heart.

Daisy Edgar-Jones is well known for her work in films and series, including Normal People (2020), Where the Crawdads Sing (2022), Under the Banner of Heaven (2022), Twisters (2024), and many more.
