Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried set to face each other in opposing roles in the upcoming thriller, The Housemaid

The story of The Housemaid is based on Freida McFadden's bestselling novel by the same name, and features Amanda Seyfried, Sydney Sweeney, and Brandon Sklenar in the main roles. Sweeney's Millie takes up the job of a live-in housemaid at Nina and Andrew Winchester's home to escape the troubles in her own life. However, she soon discovers that things are not so great at the Winchester mansion as well, as chilling incidents begin to take place during her stay, and Seyfried's Nina shows more and more of her manipulative side.

Both actresses opened up about their experience working on the film in a recent interview with PEOPLE.

Seyfried highlighted the fact that the film remained extremely true to the book, maintaining all of its aspects that fans loved.

"The film captures everything fans loved about the book — the secrets, the tension and the twists. We can’t wait for audiences to immerse themselves in the experience."

Sweeney, on the other hand, highlighted how Millie was exactly the kind of character she enjoyed playing, expressing how excited she was for fans to get to experience the character as well.

"Millie is exactly the type of character I love to play: complex, strong and with a little something up her sleeve. I can’t wait for fans to see how hard we all worked to bring The Housemaid to life."

Director Paul Feig also revealed how delightful his experience was working with the duo, stating that their chemistry was "through the roof."

"They are both such powerful talents and work so well off each other that you very quickly get sucked into their onscreen world."

He even added,

"They both slipped into these challenging roles effortlessly and took full ownership of them. We couldn’t have had a better time together making this movie."

The Housemaid is set to hit theatres on December 19.
