Natasha Lyonne, the Russian Doll star, is opening up about her role in Fantastic Four: First Steps, the MCU’s long-anticipated reboot that is set for a U.S. release on July 25, 2025. She described the film as "extraordinary" while keeping details of her character a secret. Speaking to Screen Rant, the actress revealed why her character has still been kept under wraps and if there's a reason behind this choice, as she stated:
"I guess so! I'm just trying to kind of honor the ways of the Marvel, but I’m very excited about it, and the movie is extraordinary. I think people are going to love it, and I’m so proud to be a part of it."
Casting hasn’t disclosed Lyonne’s character yet. Fan theories suggest she might be playing Alicia Masters, the blind sculptor and love interest of Ben Grimm aka The Thing, a notion supported by her on-set friendship with Ebon Moss‑Bachrach. Although no official confirmation has been made as of yet.
More details on Fantastic Four: First Steps
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is Marvel’s next big swing, and it’s landing in theaters on July 25, 2025. It’ll premiere a few days earlier, on July 21, in Los Angeles at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, which feels perfectly fitting for a movie that’s going full retro-futuristic.
Set in an alternate 1960s timeline (Earth-828 if you’re keeping track), the film introduces the first family of Marvel to the MCU, but skips the whole origin story. They’re already a team here: brilliant, weird, and dealing with bigger problems than ever.
Pedro Pascal leads as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic, with Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. The lineup also includes Julia Garner as a version of the Silver Surfer, Ralph Ineson as the voice of Galactus, and Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles. John Malkovich was involved at one point, but his part was cut during post-production.
Directed by Matt Shakman (who worked on WandaVision), Fantastic Four: First Steps went through a few rewrites before settling into a script by a stacked team that includes Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Peter Cameron, and others.
Plot-wise, the story puts Franklin Richards (Reed and Sue’s newborn son) in Galactus’s crosshairs, forcing the team to go cosmic to protect their own. The stakes are high, the science is weird, and the vibe is pure space-age superhero family chaos.
Michael Giacchino is scoring it, and yes, this officially kicks off Phase Six of the MCU. It’ll connect to the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, and will be a fresh restart to the franchise.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be in theaters on July 25, 2025.
