Here's the official synopsis as per IMDb:
"Lightning and Thunder, a Milwaukee husband and wife Neil Diamond tribute act, experience soaring success and devastating heartbreak in their musical journey together."
Let's find out how the film ends.
What's the plot of Song Sung Blue?
Song Sung Blue focuses on the couple Claire Sardina (Kate Hudson) and Mike Sardina (Hugh Jackman). They go on to perform for Lightning & Thunder, who are a band that performs tribute acts to Neil Diamond.
How does Song Sung Blue end?
Song Sung Blue is the true story of the Sardina couple. The ending showcases Claire being shattered by the sudden demise of her husband, Mike. This happened when Lightning & Thunder managed to land another opportunity. They realize that their next show is sold out. Mike suffers a major heart attack and collapses that night. He hits his head and passes away.
Both of them were celebrating on that same night, and his death turned happiness into tragedy. Mike's funeral takes place the next day and is attended by several close friends and fans. Claire starts singing at the event. The storyline takes a time jump, and we see Claire putting flowers in a garden. This is the place where she was once hit by a car.
Mike had wished Claire good luck and told her that all of this wouldn't have been possible without her. He also tells her how much she means to him just moments before he passed away. The concert was a success, but Mike did not survive. This added another layer of sadness to Claire's life.
Claire's return to this place indicates that she is coming to terms with her pain. Mike's son plays a song that he would sing annually at the Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. The ending of Song Sung Blue signifies that one's wealth and fame cannot protect them from loss. It's a part of human life, and all one can do is live with it.
Claire moves on from that tragedy by reclaiming the spot and coming to terms with Mike not being around.
Real-life Mike's son, Michael Sardina Jr., has stated that the film distorts facts. He said in a recent interview with The Daily Mail,
"I mean, yes, it's a great story," she said. "It's a beautiful story, but that's not how it went down. And I guess that's what's upsetting because it's a lie."
The film ends with Mike dying right after the concert. But in reality, he passed away several days after the injury due to internal bleeding.
Amy Vincent shot Song Sung Blue while Billy Fox served as the editor.
