“Special time in my life”: Emma Stone has nothing but praise for her time on The Amazing Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man did not introduce Mary Jane Watson as Peter's love interest. Instead, it offered a bigger arc for his other partner, Gwen Stacy, who appeared in only one of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. In the past, Bryce Dallas Howard played the part, while in the 2012 reboot, Emma Stone took over the role.

Despite her young age, Stone had already established herself as a comedic talent through movies like Crazy, Stupid, Love, Easy A, Zombieland, and Superbad, to name a few. She had also starred in the Oscar-winning The Help, which offered a glimpse at her dramatic range. Then, in 2012, The Amazing Spider-Man brought her into an even bigger spotlight as the co-lead of a comic-book film.

Released at the peak of superhero film frenzy, the movie was a massive success, and so was the sequel. While looking back at it, Emma Stone has nothing but good things to say about her working experience.

"I really loved doing Spider-Man. I loved everybody I worked with. I met Andrew there. I met Sally Field, [and director] Marc Webb was wonderful. So, it was really a special time in my life," she said during her interview for Vogue.

She added,

"That's the recurring theme [in my career]. It's the people more than, kind of, like the film itself is what sticks with me for so long. So, I have only the fondest memories of this whole experience."

In the Vogue interview, Emma Stone spoke about her wonderful working experience, but she also recalled a different kind of experience during the film's press and promotional events.

"I will say the press tours for these films, I don't really know how people do it. I remember it being like nine countries in, maybe, two weeks, and you're functioning in a state of [constant] jet lag never previously known to you. I felt truly psychotic the entire time," she said.

The project was a massive blockbuster from Sony Pictures that brought the web-slinging hero back into the mainstream through a reboot. Its reported budget was over $200 million. So, the resulting press campaign can take a toll on someone who is experiencing it for the first time.

Despite that, The Amazing Spider-Man offered a fresh update to the franchise, bringing Andrew Garfield to play the lead after Tobey Maguire. The cast also included Emma Stone, Sally Field, Kelsey Asbille, Rhys Ifans, and Irrfan Khan, among others.

The first Andrew Garfield-starrer flick earned over $758 million, while the sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, earned over $716 million. Despite being some of the highest-grossing movies from those respective years, a third movie was never made with this ensemble, since the hero was eventually intended to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

She will soon return to the big screen with Bugonia, a dark comedic alien invasion thriller, which is also her fourth feature film collaboration with director Yorgos Lanthimos.
