Michael Angelo Covino is coming up with his second feature film called Splitsville, which is a marital comedy. He is also acting, writing, and producing, like in his previous movie, The Climb, which was based on his short film of the same name. It already had a premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2025, and is now scheduled for release in August 2025.
While Covino is already in the movie, Dakota Johnson, Kyle Marvin, O-T Fagbenle, and more stars are too. Marvin is also the co-writer of the film. As Deadline reports, the actor said following its premiere at the Cannes that,
"I think a lot of us and our friends were talking about the dynamics of relationships, and a lot of times we found ourselves lying a little bit about how we felt, or how good we felt in certain things, and I think that sort of started unpacking this idea of what happened if you just felt viscerally and sort of with instant jealousy or not jealousy or whatever those reactions were in just real time and let those play out as opposed to trying to intellectualize them and process them."
Neon dropped its trailer today, and it looks hilarious, though it can also be a psychological drama.
When is Splitsville releasing?

As of now, Splitsville is set for a release on August 22, 2025. This will be a limited theatrical release. After that, there will be a wider release on September 5, 2025. However, there is no detail on the film being streamed on a streaming platform.

Splitsville trailer breakdown
The trailer begins with Carey and Ashley sitting in a car having a conversation, where the latter wants a divorce because she has cheated on him. This is obviously something that's not received well by the former, and he just runs away from the car, ending up in what appears to be the house of the couple's neighbors, played by Dakota Johnson and Michael Angelo Covino.
Real fun begins when the couples tell Carey that they are not monogamous, and Julie and Carey later make love. The next day, Carey announces that to Julie's husband, Paul, and both of them are then seen jumping out of the window. For a moment, it feels like Paul threw Carey out.
Like Ashley, Carey confesses that he has cheated on her. But that seems more like a tease than a confession. Later, we see Carey explaining to a bunch of teenagers that he just wants his wife back. Things are going to be really hard for the characters and the audiences, it seems.
