Star Trek: Insurrection is the 9th film in the franchise and was released by Paramount Pictures on December 11, 1998. Directed by Jonathan Frakes, the film's screenplay was written by Michael Piller, who also penned the story with Rick Berman. Here's the official synopsis as per Letterboxd,

When an alien race and factions within Starfleet attempt to take over a planet that has “regenerative” properties, it falls upon Captain Picard and the crew of the Enterprise to defend the planet’s people as well as the very ideals upon which the Federation itself was founded.

1) Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard

Patrick Stewart plays the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: Insurrection. He serves as the commanding officer of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), which is a starship of the Federation. Stewart has reprised this role in several installments of the franchise. Some of his popular films include the X-Men franchise and The Kid Who Would Be King.

2) Jonathan Frakes as Commander William T. Riker

William T. Riker is the first officer of the USS Enterprise. For a short period, he is elevated to the ship's captain but returns to his previous position. Riker is married to Deanne Troi in the franchise. Some of the prominent films of Jonathan Frakes include Clockstoppers and Devil's Gate.

3) Brent Spiner as Lieutenant Commander Data

Brent Spiner portrays Data, who is the second officer in command and chief operations officer at Enterprise-D. He is actually an android robot with a sentient brain and is also self-aware. Some of Spiner's other roles include Independence Day and Independence Day: Resurgence.

Star Trek: Insurrection is produced by Nick Berman and focuses on the Enterprise going against Starfleet's order. This is done after they find out the Son'a are trying to get the planet of Ba'ku for its resources. Upon its release, the film was a moderate critical success and minted $118 million at the box office.

Michael Welch was bestowed with a Youth in Film Award for his performance. A sequel titled Star Trek: Nemesis was released in 2002 and was directed by Stuart Baird.
