Steve cast and character guide: Who plays whom in the Netflix film?

There's full chaos in Steve, literally.

The head teacher in charge of Stanton Wood, Steve, played by Cillian Murphy, is often trying to be the pillar of this school, which doesn't really feel like one.

If it wasn't for the headteacher and the staff, Stanton Wood would've been deemed a proper abandoned building where these problematic teens hang out. Other than Murphy, the film also stars Tracey Ullman, Jay Lycurgo, Simbi Ajikawo, and more.

The film currently sits fresh with a 77% score at Rotten Tomatoes, and its synopsis reads,

"Set in the mid-90s, Steve is a reimagining of Max Porter's Sunday Times bestseller Shy. The film follows a pivotal day in the life of headteacher Steve and his students at a last-chance reform school amidst a world that has forsaken them."
"As Steve fights to protect the school's integrity and impending closure, we witness him grappling with his own mental health. In parallel to Steve's struggles, we meet Shy, a troubled teen caught between his past and what lies ahead as he tries to reconcile his inner fragility with his impulse for self-destruction and violence."

Let's explore the cast and characters of this film.

Cillian Murphy as Steve

Cool teachers in movies are always fun to watch, and Cillian Murphy's character Steve, is the latest addition to that list. One cannot simply tell if he is a head teacher or a dude hanging around with the young anarchist folks of Stanton Wood. However, his attire can tell that he is a teacher, and a responsible one. Though "very, very tired."

Jay Lycurgo as Shy

The name has nothing to do with the personality of the character Jay Lycurgo plays in the movie. He is more of a silent guy, but with a lot of anger issues. That is why he is here. He is the supporting character who loves music, as you can see him moving around everywhere with his headphones on. One thing is clear: he is the smartest guy of all the students.

Joshua J Parker as Riley

Riley is one hot-headed guy in the movie who is always getting into fights with Jamie, whom we will discuss next. Joshua J Parker plays the role in the film.

Luke Ayres as Jamie

Jamie is a guy who can read people and, as we mentioned, gets into fights with Riley often. It seems like he likes to do that. However, he can also be considered the wisest one of all the students, as one conversation between him and Steve in his room points this out.

Tracey Ullman as Amanda

Tracey Ullman is in the supporting cast here and plays one of the staff members, Amanda. If Cillian Murphy's character in the film is the pillar of the school, she is his pillar supporting him. She understands him the best.

Emily Watson as Jenny

If we are talking about a place like Stanton Wood, it has to have a psychologist. Thankfully, this school has one in the form of Jenny, who is portrayed by Emily Watson.
