Steve, a reimagination of Max Porter's bestselling novel Shy, recently premiered on Netflix on October 3, a month after its theatrical run. The film stars Cillian Murphy as the titular head teacher, who has a particularly hard day at his reform school, which faces impending closure. At the same time, he tries to support and understand his troubled teens, who have their own uniquely complex struggles.

The film is set in the mid-'90s and is written by Porter himself. It has been directed by Tim Mielants and, along with Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy, stars Jay Lycurgo as Shy.

The music in the film contributes a lot to the '90s aesthetic of the film, as well as the intense, chaotic, and heartfelt moments of it all. Here is a look at the complete list of music that is featured in Steve.

Complete guide through the soundtracks in Netflix's Cillian Murphy starrer Steve

Netflix has recently revealed an official soundtrack for every score that is featured in the Cillian Murphy starrer. From an original by one of the actors to music from Slipmatt, Steve has an interesting list of music that helps contextualize the film.

The official logline of the film reads:

"Over one intense day, the devoted head teacher of a last-chance reform school strives to keep his students in line while facing pressures of his own."

The original score of the film was composed by Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury. Apart from that, it also includes an original song by Simbi Ajikawo, who goes by Little Simz as her stage name.

1: Don't Leave Too Soon by Little Simz

Don't Leave Too Soon by Little Simz is one of the most important songs for the Irish/British Netflix original film. It is written by Simbi Ajikawo (Little Simz), who plays Shola, one of the teachers at Stanton Wood. Ajikawo reveals the song to be something she wrote entirely for Jay's character, Shy, after she witnessed this performance:

"I was blown away by Jay’s performance and I wanted to write a song for Shy, just because I feel like he just desperately wants to be seen. And maybe he doesn’t know that’s what he wants, but it was very clear to me. So I wanted to make a song for him that shows him, ‘I see you.’ "

The song was released as a digital single last month during the film's theatrical run.

2: Break the Beats by Slipmatt

Break the Beats is another song that is featured in the film, and it was created by Slipmatt, a British electronic music producer and DJ. The song was composed by Salisbury and Geoff Barrow, and the fast-paced beats of the song, paired with the depth of the vocals in it, are a just representation of the students and Steve at Stanton Wood.

Some of the other scores included:

3: Oxycodone

4: You Weirdo

5: Backpack (Strings Version)

6: It's Over Anyway

7: In Agony

8: Backpack

9: Tomorrow's Joy

10: Shy

Steve is now available to stream on Netflix.
