The soundtrack of the newly released Tyler Perry film, Straw, has been composed by Dara Taylor.

Released on Netflix on June 6, 2025, the film follows the plot of a single mother's struggle to take care of her child due to systemic injustice and bias enabled by the corrupt system. The story occurs inside a bank, when Janiyah is not receiving cooperation from the officials as she is set to gather capital for her daughter's medical treatment. As a result, Janiyah is compelled to take a strong step.

Its synopsis, as per IMDb, goes as:

"A single mother navigates a series of unfortunate events, leading her down an unforeseen path where she becomes embroiled in a situation she never envisioned, finding herself at the center of suspicion in an indifferent world."

The film stars Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, Sinbad, Rockmond Dunbar, Glynn Turman, Ashley Versher, and Mike Merrill.

The original soundtrack of Straw was composed by the Hollywood Music in Media Awards nominee Dara Taylor. Dara Taylor's music in this film captures the true essence of the story. Its emotional impact is brought out beautifully in the poignant musical scores created by Taylor. The score has been produced by Michael Van Bodegom Smith. The soundtrack list contains a total of 20 scores.

Upon its release, the film received a rating of 6.7/10 on IMDb. Taraji P. Henson's performance was appreciated in the film. As per Movie Delic, the actor has revealed that she felt compassion for the character Janiyah, as she too is a single mother.

Even though the film is not based on one particular true event, it is based on an accumulation of multiple instances of systemic abuse that women, especially from marginalized communities, face daily. Public institutions such as banks and hospitals that are supposed to aid people in crisis often end up failing to provide basic care and safety to people.
