We know, reader, you are one good-good person, but here's some advice: To avoid super dark times, don't try to consume marijuana while on a bridge (or, basically, ever). Especially when it's someone you call a rival or, maybe, an enemy. Perhaps they, like, want to toss you off a bridge—who knows? Stay safe.

So, there is this independent film called Super Dark Times (wait, is this deja vu?), in which a couple of geek teens, Zach and Josh, played by Charlie Tahan and Owen Campbell, go about their daily geek lives. However, things turn messy when one of these boys turns out to be super-murderous while maintaining their geek lives.

The independent film first came out in 2017 and is still among the ones with debates around its plot and ending. There are a couple of things at the end we will get to see—we have already mentioned one of them (bold text in the second paragraph). The other being a scar that appears at the neck of this girl, both the geeks admire. We will see them both now.

Now, we have to look at a few events in the film's story leading to this big reveal. So, Josh and Zach are best friends who are simply going about their high school life, checking out girls who don't likely even know they exist, and being proper nerds.

They later become friends with Daryl (Max Talisman) and Charlie (Sawyer Barth) and hang out. Wow, they have a gang now. Josh has a brother in the military, and this gang finds a katana and some marijuana (yeah, you are about to know the why of the first paragraph). Really cool!

So the nerd bunch gives the katana a swing, but they find that Daryl has stolen the marijuana, which Josh didn't like. A fight ensues, and accidentally, the heavy Daryl ends up with that katana around his neck. They hide his body in the forest and go their ways.

After that, the best friends aren't really close now, but they eventually meet again at this girl's party they both admire, Allison (Elizabeth Cappuccino). Josh is carrying marijuana there, which the people at the party, including Allison, share, but that disturbs Zach, so he leaves.

Super Dark Times gives us another death after this, which everyone comes to know about. The victim's a druggie called John (Ethan Botwick). Interestingly, Josh hated this guy. Somehow, Zach put two and two together to figure out that Josh drugged John and tossed the poor guy (now you know).

Still, it isn't confirmed he is the killer, but Josh suspects Allison might be in trouble and discovers she is at her friend Meghan's (Adea Lennox). He visits the place where Meghan lies dead and Allison is tied. There we go, we found our killerhe is Josh.

What's that scar on Allison's neck?

Of course, as it has been in almost all love stories, our hero saves the heroine. The same trope plays out in Super Dark Times, though our hero Zach gets a helping hand from a neighbor.

As Super Dark Times ends, we see Allison from behind as she brushes her hair, revealing three scars on her neck, like three large cuts that have now healed. So why are they there?

Thankfully, we didn't have to dig deeper into it, as Super Dark Times' Luke Piotrowski, the film’s co-writer, gave us an answer when Taylor Holmes, a film writer, connected with him about this matter. In one now-deleted Twitter (now X) post, Luke had explained:

"Open to interpretation but MINE is that, yes she’s moving on. The scars are there, sometimes in sight, sometimes hidden but not defining her."

That's seriously worth considering.

Our interpretation of this Super Dark Times scene? Well, Josh is the real bully in there, and the movie wants us to remember that.
