James Gunn's Superman came flying and surprised everyone. The biggest thing here was to fill the shoes and the impression that Henry Cavill's Man of Steel left on the fans. David Corenswet has done a satisfactory job in the latest film that everyone is loving. But it's not just the new superhero but several references to other DC stories that will leave anyone with their jaws dropped.

One of them is a nod to Batman, who is yet to be cast in James Gunn's DC Universe. If you haven't watched the film already, know that this will be a mild spoiler.

The Batman reference comes when all hell breaks loose in the movie during an evacuation scene. The film's villain, the iconic Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), has this pocket dimension that goes haywire. This is where people can see a highway sign pointing towards Gotham City.

In a way, the Caped Crusader has already made his debut in James Gunn's DC Universe. The superhero did a cameo during the sixth episode of Creature Commandos. Regarding that, he told Rotten Tomatoes that,

"It's a great way to show that Batman does exist. He already exists in this universe. Just like when we come to the Superman movie, we see the Superman already exists. He’s already known by the people in Metropolis."

Now that it is clear that he is a part of this universe, the next thing to look forward to is when he will make his live-action debut here. He will appear in The Brave and the Bold, which has neither an actor playing the character nor a release date yet.

Some rumors suggested that Robert Pattinson would reprise his role as Batman, but Gunn clarified that this isn't true and that they have no plans around it. To add more strength to it, DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran told Collider that,

"No, yeah, and we love him, but you know, we have to introduce a Batman into the DCU. You know, it's imperative and so, that's the plan with Brave and the Bold."

Though Batman will be there in The Brave and the Bold, the movie will focus more on his son, Damian Wayne. Gunn has already teased that this story will be based on Grant Morrison's run of Batman. Morrison's storyline ran for seven years, which includes Final Crisis, Batman and Robin, Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne, and more.

While the Batman reference will certainly spark new conversations among the community, there are several other things that surely aren't missable. One of the most interesting things about Superman is that Bradley Cooper appears briefly as Superman's father, Jor-El. Regarding how he managed to bring the handsome hunk to the equation, Gunn told Entertainment Tonight that,

"I needed somebody who could play Jor-El… who had the stature of what we imagine that character being. Somebody who could walk in the footsteps of Marlon Brando."

The iconic actor, known for films like On the Waterfront (1954) and The Godfather (1972), played Jor-El in Christopher Reeve's Superman (1978).

Additionally, you will also get to see other DC references like The Justice Society of America, Belle Reve, and more in the film.
