As its release date gets nearer, James Gunn’s Superman has dropped another teaser, and this time, it doesn’t just come flying in with capes flapping and fists blazing. Instead, it's showing us a hero that fights for humanity, fires lasers from his eyes, and protects people, and if the visuals are any tell-tale, then we can be sure that DC will absolutely rock this one beyond anyone's expectations.

Gunn’s vision rejects the marble-carved Supermen of the past. Gone is the untouchable demigod. In his place stands (well, tries to stand) a bruised symbol of hope who mumbles, “Take me home,” and suddenly feels less like a myth and more like someone you’ve cried next to. This is a Superman with skinned knees and soft eyes.

As interviews suggest, Gunn’s approach is deliberate: a “battered” Superman for a battered world. The teasers shared by DC before are laced with early glimpses of the Daily Planet, quiet tension with Lois, and a story that feels more human than ever. There are Easter eggs, yes, but the real surprise is his heart.

More details about James Gunn's Superman

James Gunn is dusting off the red cape and giving the Man of Steel a whole new beat. Set to release this July, Superman marks the first official chapter of the rebooted DC Universe under Gunn and Peter Safran. But this isn’t a retelling of Krypton’s final days or Clark’s first flight. This time, we meet a fully formed Superman, already saving lives by day and reporting for the Daily Planet by deadline.

David Corenswet is stepping in as our newest Superman. His portrayal of the superhero is expected to be tender yet tough, a man raised on Earth yet haunted by the weight of two worlds. Beside him, Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane with bite and brilliance. Nicholas Hoult goes bald and brilliant as Lex Luthor, the genius billionaire villain with an agenda sharp enough to cut steel.

And this time, Superman won’t be alone. Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Green Lantern (Guy Gardner), Metamorpho, and The Engineer are all joining the ride, hinting at the future of the DCU. The film also marks the fresh start of Gunn's Gods & Monsters era in the DCU, which opens the portals for multiple new franchises. This means that Corenswet's Superman is holding a lot more responsibility than just saving the world; he will also be the intro to what could be the DCU's most successful era.

Thus, Gunn promises a story that’s more philosophical than mythic, more emotional than explosive. It’s not about how Superman becomes a hero. It’s about what it means to be one when the world already expects you to be perfect. This Superman is already in motion. He’s been saving the world for a while. But now, finally, the world is watching. And maybe, for the first time, it will truly see him.

Superman will be in theaters on 11 July 2025.
