James Gunn hints that the Superman trailer might be arriving soon

As Superman approaches its release date, director James Gunn has hinted that the official trailer is ready. So far, the makers have released a teaser, a sneak peek, and a BTS video. Recently, a user named @i.am_mpc on X (formerly Twitter) wrote to Gunn, "blink twice if the Superman trailer is ready." In response, the director tweeted a series of emoticons that mimic a person blinking twice. This suggests that the trailer might be dropping sooner rather than later. On the Thread, a user asked Gunn if the film is 90% complete. The director stated,

"Oh more than that. Just finishing some VFX and the sound mix."

The fan further asked if the edit is complete. Gunn then wrote:

"Yes it's what's called latched. Meaning it's basically latched, but I'll move cuts around here and there as VFX or music comes in."

Gunn and Peter Safran produce Superman under the banners of DC Studios, The Safran Company, and Troll Court Entertainment. It is a reboot of the namesake series and will be released on July 11, 2025. The story revolves around Clark Kent, who is trying to reconcile his Kryptonian background on Earth.

The cast members of the film are:

  • David Corenswet as Clark Kent aka Superman
  • Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane
  • Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor
  • Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt aka Mister Terrific
  • Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason aka Metamorpho
  • Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, aka Green Lantern
  • Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl

In an interview with IGN, Gunn revealed that he is giving up on everything to make the film. He said,

“Just giving up everything in my life and soul, literally. I'm miserable, frankly. Really, I'm miserable, but hopefully it's for the greater good."

He further spoke about casting David Corenswet.

“I've always believed that the casting is the most important and that as long as the actor is the best possible actor for that role, that's more important than it is for a name. Especially in today's market, which is you see movie stars are not the same as they used to be in terms of you can't, like what it was 15 years ago, open up a Melissa McCarthy movie. Instantly, you're going to make this much money. Open up an Adam Sandler movie, instantly you're going to make this much money. It's not like that anymore. So I just wanted to go for who was the best Superman.”
