On August 7, 2025, Sydney Sweeney was quietly observed on a New York City Street, filming scenes for The Devil Wears Prada 2. Dressed down in an oversized blue hoodie and black joggers, she stepped out of a trailer near co-star Emily Blunt.

Her appearance is the first visual confirmation of her involvement in the sequel, which had not been publicly announced beforehand. At the same time, Sweeney remains in the spotlight due to her recent American Eagle jeans campaign.

The ad, featuring the slogan

“Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,”

Prompted discussion on social media, with some interpreting it as racially insensitive.

American Eagle responded by publishing a statement, stressing that their message was, in effect, merely to praise the quality and universality of the jeans themselves. Her attendance on set and the general discussion of the advertisement are both developing in tandem and drawing the attention of the audience on both sides of the entertainment scene.

Stepping into the rain-spattered streets of Manhattan, Sydney Sweeney wore simple black joggers and slipped her hands into her hoodie pockets. She appeared alone, moving from her trailer to a corner lot where crew members were setting lights.

Though umbrellas were up, she seemed unfazed by the drizzle, pausing briefly to chat with a crew assistant. Nobody from the production commented on her arrival, keeping her exact involvement under wraps.

Her American Eagle campaign continues to spark debate

Just days before filming, Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle spot went live online with the tagline “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.” Soon, viewers on TikTok and X criticized the ad for seeming to link denim to a particular look or heritage.

American Eagle’s official post clarified, “Great jeans look good on everyone,”

Insisting the focus was on the fit and quality of the jeans themselves, not any other message. A source close to the brand told TMZ their polling found about 70% of people enjoyed the campaign, suggesting the uproar represents a vocal minority.

The sequel unites returning stars and fresh faces

The Devil Wears Prada 2 returns Meryl Streep (original lead), Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, and Tracie Thoms. The main shoot started preliminarily on June 30, 2025, with director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna. In recent weeks, Streep, Hathaway, Tucci, and Blunt have already filmed in New York City.

Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Bloom, and Patrick Brammall join the cast in fresh roles, diving into the next chapter of life behind the scenes at a high-stakes fashion magazine. The film hits theaters on May 1, 2026.
