The 5th Wave is about gods simply playing gods. Call them aliens or whatever you want, but the events that go on in there are just ghastly. These gods are known as the Others in the film and are planning something biblical to wreak havoc on the entire human race. As the name suggests, they do this in waves, and the last one is an invisible one that humans didn't see coming.

The critical failure with only a 17% score at Rotten Tomatoes was a commercial success, sort of, and made $109.9 million against a production budget of reportedly $38–54 million.

It stars Chloë Grace Moretz as Cassie Sullivan, Liev Schreiber as Colonel Alexander Vosch, Alex Roe as Evan Walker, and more. At the end of the film, it is really difficult for the characters to tell who is a human and who is an Other. But hope still remains.

The 5th wave begins with the 4th wave

With the first three waves, the fans will think that the Others are just trying to destroy the Earth with whatever toys they carry on their colossal alien ship.

Their 1st wave is a massive electromagnetic pulse, which crumbles everything electrical on the planet. If you have played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, this is the Second Sun, just on a global scale and not just in the United States.

Next comes natural disasters in the 2nd wave, as the Others cause earthquakes on a global scale. Though this seems devastating, it is not even close to what comes next.

The 3rd wave is a strain of avian influenza, which is usually found in birds but can affect humans as fatally as birds. Now, healthy people can somehow escape natural disasters if they are lucky. They cannot simply do anything if they are being eaten by this virus from the inside.

Finally, the 4th wave arrives, and it is also the beginning of the 5th wave. This is the most devastating time in the film, as Others have come down to Earth and have possessed a few people there, creating panic among all the survivors.

The 5th wave would probably be a TV show for the Others

As soon as the Others ascend to Earth in The 5th Wave, they start spreading fear among the survivors. They have possessed some humans, and Colonel Alexander Vosch, who is one of the possessed, tells the people about what's going on in the 4th wave. Interestingly, the Others have already sent their agent among them (Alex Roe's Evan Walker), who rebels and joins the humans after his humanity is awakened after meeting Cassie.

In a much twisted strategy, the Others start training children to kill the ones who aren't possessed. brainwashing them into believing that they are fighting for their own survival.

Considering all this, the 5th wave would be more like a psychological experiment or a TV show for the Others, as trust would cease to exist among humans. They would be attacking each other, thinking of them as the Others. At the end, Cassie is seen sitting with fellow humans, and hope is all that is left for them now.

This was the first part of the story that was adapted from the novel of the same name. The sequel to it hasn't been announced, but if they arrive, they would be the adaptations of The Infinite Sea and The Last Star.
