Fans were having some doubts about whether Matt Reeves is still on board for The Batman II. Thankfully, he is. James Gunn recently confirmed that the director of the first film is still attached to the sequel. Rumors were circulating that he had walked away, and now this should be enough to shut them down for good.

Gunn is active on social media and keeps giving answers to the fans scratching their heads about things, and this one was among them. Fans should send their thanks to this one account called Nexus Point News, which screenshotted Gunn's response and shared it on its account on X (formerly Twitter).

Matt Reeves's Batman, where Robert Pattinson plays the caped crusader of Gotham, has sprung a spin-off featuring Colin Farrell's Penguin by the name of Penguin. There's also a comic book based on the film's main antagonist, Riddler, called The Riddler: Year One.

The Batman II, also called The Batman – Part II for a while before going untitled again, is currently scheduled to be released on October 1, 2027. As it has been shifted multiple times before, we should expect a couple or so shifts coming in in the future.

Why did these rumors about The Batman II surface?

There were different things like Robert Pattinson filming Dune: Messiah, Reeves going through some personal issues, and industry scoopers like Jeff Sneider that fuelled these rumors. It was also said that Reeves may still stay as the scriptwriter of the film. The man has both directed and written the first film.

As for the cast of The Batman II, it is likely that we will see Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell reprising their respective roles of Commissioner Jim Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, and The Penguin.

Pattinson was thought of as being attached to The Brave and the Bold film, which has yet to be announced. The movie is likely to focus on the Bat-Family. However, the DC heads, Gunn and Peter Safran, confirmed that fans aren't getting him in that film.

What other DC projects is Matt Reeves attached to other than The Batman II?

In 2023, Gunn responded to a fan who asked about Reeves being involved in the "Batverse." On Instagram's microblogging service, this is what he said,

"Right now Matt is producing Arkham as a DCU series, so there’s just the two for now."

We can safely say that James Gunn has kept the hopes of Reeves being attached to the DCU alive for a long time.

Matt Reeves is also one of the co-producers of Clayface, one of the eight movies in Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, and it is expected that the character might show up in The Batman II. Maybe that'll happen, which will then also attach the film to Gunn's DCU. That said, Pattinson's Batman might have a chance to show up here.

Other than this, Reeves is also working on a TV series based on Diana Cook's novel called The New Wilderness. There were also rumors of him being attached to the live-action adaptation of The Hunt for Atlantis by Andy McDermott.
