Ohio Players is the band's twelfth studio album. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, the duo behind The Black Keys project, elaborated on the process behind the recording of the album in an exclusive interview with Loudersound website on June 17, 2024, stating:"We spent more time on Ohio Players than we did on Brothers, El Camino and Turn Blue combined. We ended up with close to thirty songs, like, done-done. But then we started pulling off any song that felt a little too mid-tempo or sad, putting them in the vault. Like: ‘This is not what we want right now.’”Auerbach took over, talking about the material included in the album:"We were raised on so much different music, we couldn’t possibly just do one style. I mean, I was brought up in a household that had bluegrass, Motown, Stax. But then at school there was rap and grunge."Auerbach continued:"We just wanted to be carried away with the joy of creation in the studio. We didn’t want it to be rigid or pretend that you have to conform to some sort of box."Ohio Players is The Black Keys's first album since 2022's Dropout Boogie. The band reached the height of their commercial success back in 2011 with the album El Camino, which was a hit on several major charts and subsequently earned platinum certifications in countries like the US and Ireland, among others.
