The Beekeeper 2 director Timo Tjahjanto reunites with The Shadow Strays star Aurora Ribero for a new project. Tjahjanto directed The Shadow Strays, an action thriller that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and stars Ribero as a young assassin. Currently, he is also directing The Beekeeper 2, starring Jason Statham.

In a recent X (formerly Twitter) post, the director teases their collaboration by saying,

“The buzz just gettin’ started.”

Tjahjanto did not offer any specific details about the nature of his team-up with Aurora Ribero. It might be the sequel to The Shadow Strays, the Indonesian thriller that introduced Ribero as a vengeful young assassin who does everything in her power to rescue an orphan boy. This blood-soaked action saga became a hit on Netflix after its debut in 2024.

Earlier this year, Tjahjanto shared a post on his X, teasing the sequel for The Shadow Strays with the caption,

"Shadows will return."

So, Aurora Ribero might be reuniting with him for The Shadow Strays sequel. However, the director's latest X post mentions "The Buzz," which might be a pun related to The Beekeeper 2, being directed by him. While it's not confirmed, rumors and speculation suggest Aurora Ribero is likely to join Jason Statham in the sequel to The Beekeeper.

The Beekeeper sequel has officially been greenlit by Miramax, who also co-produced the first film. Amazon MGM Studios has come on board for this project. According to Deadline, they hold the worldwide distribution rights.

The first film, directed by David Ayer, came out in 2024. It introduced Jason Statham as a black ops operative from a clandestine group called "Beekeepers." Years later, he lives a quiet life on a farm, working as a beekeeper. However, he gets pulled back into his messy but brutal past after his neighbor decides to take her life after a phishing scam robs her of her entire savings. He turns into a violent, rageful hitman to seek vengeance against those who scammed her.

Timo Tjahjanto was onboarded to this project as a director with Jason Statham all set to return as Adam Clay. The rest of the cast has not been revealed, and the plot details are still under wraps. However, based on Tjahjanto's recent tweet about "The Buzz," The Shadow Strays star Aurora Ribero might be joining this project.

It is still unknown whether Aurora Ribero will be involved in this project at all or what role she will play in the sequel.

The Beekeeper 2 is yet to enter production, but it is slated to begin shooting this fall. Until then, the Timo Tjahjanto fans can look forward to Nobody 2, the upcoming action thriller starring Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk. The sequel is scheduled to premiere on August 15, 2025.

Known largely for his comedic roles, Odenkirk made a pivot to gritty roles with the Breaking Bad spin-off. Shortly after, he landed the lead role in Ilya Naishuller's Nobody. This John Wick-style gorefest introduced Odenkirk as an action star.

Timo Tjahjanto has finished directing the follow-up to Naishuller's 2021 film, and judging by the trailer and Tjahjanto's past oeuvre, it is going to be a dark and violent affair.
