Netflix has brought us a fresh, chilling documentary in the form of The Carman Family Deaths, which tells a story about a son and his mother who went on a fishing trip. However, only the son returned, and the mother was never to be found.
Following that, investigations have been carried out, and it is believed that the boy, Nathan Carman, murdered his mother. Although no solid proof has been brought to light, the details he provided to the investigators have been suspicious.
While the authorities are against him, his father, Clark Carman, remains by his side. He still believes that Nathan has nothing to do with whatever happened, and it was all a tragic accident. Nathan died in 2023, and Clark has kept a low profile but agreed to interview for the documentary The Carman Family Deaths.
What is The Carman Family Deaths about?
The Carman Family Deaths is about the death of Linda Carman, the mother of Nathan Carman, that Clark Carman has spoken about.
It happened on September 17, 2016, when the mother and son went on their usual fishing expedition, but this time it was different. They didn't return. The Coast Guard was then alerted about the two and found them. However, it was just Nathan, and Linda was nowhere to be seen.
A Coast Guard member had his own suspicion of the boy, who noticed that he didn't seem to be affected by what had transpired. On top of that, he didn't even have any signs of dehydration after spending a week in the sea alone.
All Nathan had to say was that he sent his mother to bring fishing lines, and that was the last time he had seen her. Everything he said had some hole in the story, and he was finally arrested on murder charges.
In an interview with ABC News before his arrest, Nathan said,
"I got onboard the life raft and was looking around, and I was calling out to my mom. I did not see or hear my mom, and I was blowing the whistle with three loud, short bursts, which is a distress signal."
Nathan was diagnosed with autism, and those fishing trips he took with his mother were necessary for him.
Clark Carman says his son isn't capable of such a deed
While we can see Clark speaking about the incident and his son after a long silence in The Carman Family Deaths, he had talked about it before, and believes that his son is not capable of doing anything like that. According to a CBS News report, he said that,
"The past is the past, and what I want to say about that is, I wish the press would leave it alone, because he was not involved with his grandfather, with his mother. It was a pure accident, and he would never do anything like that."
Nathan was also suspected of the murder of his wealthy grandfather, John Chakalos, but that too remained unsolved.
