The horror universe of the Warrens isn't closing anytime soon, as Warner Bros and New Line have just announced another chapter in The Conjuring franchise that will explore the early days of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Rodrigue Huart, known for his short film Transylvanie is in talks to serve as the director, with a screenplay coming from Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg who worked on The Nun II and The Conjuring: Last Rites.

Though initially considered the Warrens’ swan song, The Conjuring: Last Rites surpassed box office expectations instead, conjuring up a franchise-best $487 million worldwide. That success made it almost inevitable that the universe, as well as boasting nine interconnected films and a staggering $2.7 billion haul, would find new life. Whether Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will reprise their roles remains uncertain, as the prequel could feature younger versions of the couple.

Apart from that, the franchise is also opening up to the small screen, as HBO is all set to develop a new television series that will keep the stories going forward. It's not yet known what the details would look like, but Nancy Won has joined the project as the writer and showrunner.

Few modern horror franchises have gripped audiences quite like The Conjuring Universe. Created by James Wan and produced by New Line Cinema, Atomic Monster, and The Safran Company, the series has evolved into a sprawling cinematic universe that intertwines haunted houses, cursed relics, and the chilling exploits of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, the films reimagine the Warrens’ most infamous cases, turning supposed true events into supernatural thrillers that defined a new era of horror storytelling.

The main films of the franchise are the four The Conjuring films, where Ed and Lorrains's real life cases are shown in a dramatized manner. Surrounding these main stories are a series of interconnected spin-offs that delve deeper into the universe’s most terrifying entities. There's the Annabelle trilogy, centering on the most popular antagonist of the franchise, a raggedy Ann doll who is haunted and continues to incite violence among those around her. There's also two The Nun films, that center on a character who was introduced in The Conjuring 2. All the films are interconnected, creating a weave of some kind, with Ed and Lorraine at the center of it.

While the franchise’s tone varies, from gothic terror to supernatural suspense, it has left an undeniable mark on modern horror. The chemistry between Wilson and Farmiga anchors the series in humanity amid the horror, while its mix of real-world mystique and imaginative storytelling continues to keep audiences haunted, thrilled, and always coming back for more.
