It’s happening; Miranda Priestly is picking up her coffee and strutting back into our lives. After nearly 20 years of iconic quotes, sky-high stilettos, and that withering blue sweater monologue, The Devil Wears Prada is officially getting a sequel. And no, this is not just some last-season reboot.

The first film was based on Lauren Weisberger's autobiographical novel of the same name, which delved into her experience working at Vogue under Anna Wintour, who also loosely inspired the role of Priestley. With Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt expected to return (cue the dry sarcasm and panic-stricken assistants), the sequel dives into a changed fashion world where Miranda’s empire faces the downfall of print, and Emily, now a high-powered exec, just might hold all the cards. Power shifts, Prada heels, and press releases? We’re in. Here's everything you need to know about The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Yes! Our favorite fashion divas are back, as Variety has reported. It has been rumored for a few years that the studio is working on The Devil Wears Prada 2 starring the iconic trio, and as of now, Disney has also revealed a release date for the successor—May 1, 2026.

The next chapter sees Miranda Priestly doing what she does best, commanding boardrooms with a single glance, but this time, the stakes are different. As the glossy world of print magazines crumbles beneath her designer heels, she finds herself scrambling to stay on top. The real twist? Emily, her once-overlooked assistant, is now a fierce executive at a luxury fashion conglomerate. And guess what, she controls the very ad dollars Miranda needs to keep Runway afloat. It’s a delicious role reversal, packed with tension, power moves, and just enough shade to make even a Chanel coat feel chilly.

Wendy Finerman, the powerhouse producer who helped bring The Devil Wears Prada to life, is gearing up to return and sprinkle her magic on the sequel. Additionally, Deadline has reported that David Frankel, the original director who perfectly captured the movie’s iconic blend of sharp edges and heart, is in talks to come back behind the camera. And if that wasn’t enough to get fans buzzing, Aline Brosh McKenna, the brilliant writer who crafted the 2006 script’s unforgettable dialogue, is officially back to pen this next chapter. Basically, the dream team is reuniting, and we’re here for it.

Most probably, all the stars will return for the sequel, although nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Recently, Stanley Tucci, who played Nigel in The Devil Wears Prada, opened up about his return as he told Variety,

“I know they’re working on it. If it happens, I would be so happy, but I cannot give you any information. Otherwise, I’ll go to the actor’s prison or something. [The original] was one of the best experiences ever."

In a 2023 interview with Anne Hathaway for Variety's Actors on Actors, Emily Blunt, who played Emily Charlton, also spoke about her role and a potential sequel, as she said,

"We just had a joy bomb of a time on that movie. I don’t know if any of us knew it was going to become what it did. It’s quoted to me every week. It will be the movie that changed my life."

However, Blunt has also been back and forth about the idea of the sequel, as she has also expressed her views on the film being good enough as a standalone and not really needing a successor. Regardless, we sure hope Charlton is back for the sequel and hopefully gets to go to Paris this time!

In 2022, Anne Hathaway shared her thoughts about a sequel as she told The View,

"I don't know if there can be [a sequel movie]. I just think that movie was in a different era, you know? Now, everything's gone so digital, and that movie centered around the concept of producing a physical thing. It's just very different now."

She then added,

"Although. it is tempting to think about Andy and Emily needing to get Miranda her coffee and she's somewhere in Europe. And then along the way they pick up Stanley Tucci in Italy, who's at a restaurant. It's tempting, but I don't think it's gonna happen."

Puck magazine had previously reported on the storyline that is in the works as of now and that it will be based on the decline of traditional magazine publishing. The outlet reported,

“The storyline being discussed focuses on Miranda Priestly, Streep’s Wintour-esque protagonist, at the end of her career, facing the decline of traditional magazine publishing. She’s forced to go head-to-head with her former assistant, Blunt’s Emily Charlton, now a high-powered executive at a Kering or LVMH-style luxury group, whose advertising dollars Priestly desperately needs.”

However, many have also assumed that the story could be based on Lauren Weisberger's sequel novel Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, since the first one inspired the original film.
