The Devil Wears Prada 2’s writer comments on fan turnout and set image reactions

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is finally happening, and it is slated for release on May 1, 2026, by 20th Century Studios. The film is a sequel to 2006's The Devil Wears Prada. Here is the official synopsis as per Letterboxd,

Miranda Priestly navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing. She faces off against Emily Charlton, her one-time assistant, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group, with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.

The film is directed by David Frankel, with a script penned by Aline Brosh McKenna. Recently, McKenna addressed the growing buzz surrounding the sequel’s behind-the-scenes photos.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 writer Aline Brosh McKenna recently spoke to IndieWire about the attention the film's on-set photos are getting. She said,

“People will stand outside just for a glimpse of these actors and these characters that they love because seeing them in wardrobe has really excited people, especially since it’s a fashion movie."

She added,

"We knew there would be a lot of interest. I personally hadn’t experienced this level of people coming out [to the set], but it’s the world we live in. In many ways, we’re speaking to a different world than we did in 2006. … It stems from like a legitimate desire to see these characters again. As long as everyone’s safe, what an honor that people are still interested.”

The film's first look was released last month, which featured Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs. Since then, paps and fans have been circling designer stores to get a glimpse of the film's production.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is produced by Wendy Finerman and is adapted from Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns. Besides Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Emily Blunt as well as Stanley Tucci is also reprising their role from the first film. Here is a list of its cast members:

The first film was also written and directed by McKenna and Frankel, respectively. It focused on a young girl who joins a fashion magazine but soon realizes that her boss is ruthless and demanding. The film was released on June 30, 2006, and met with positive reviews. It also grossed $326.7 million at the box office.

Back in 2022, Hathaway had stated that a sequel might not be possible in today's day and age. She said,

“I don’t know if there can be. I just think that movie was in a different era. Now, everything has gone so digital and that movie centered around the concept of producing a physical thing. It’s just very different now.”

However, fans are finally getting the much-awaited sequel. The Devil Wears Prada 2 will drop on May 1, 2026.
