Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies held a memorabilia auction on June 18, 2025. David Lynch’s personalized director's chair was sold for an impressive bid of $70,000. Other movie memorabilia from the legendary Hollywood filmmaker was sold at the film auction.

Earlier, on June 13, 2025, Julien’s Auctions offered movie buffs and the general public a chance to view a part of cinematic history as Lynch’s chair was displayed at different venues in Los Angeles.

Their X post read:

"Over the coming days, we invite you to step into the realm where surreal imagination comes to life. Experience the iconic director’s chair of David Lynch as it journeys across Los Angeles,”

It continued:

"An exclusive chance for fans to witness the very seat owned by one cinema's of the most remarkable directors. Do you think you can come find us? Decode the clue to solve where we will be tomorrow morning."

David Lynch, who was renowned for his unique approach to storytelling and his surrealistic visuals, died in January 2025, leaving behind an impressive resume of projects like Eraserhead and Blue Velvet.

The director’s music equipment, clothing, and cameras were among the more than 400 items sold at the June 18, 2025, auction. At the auction held at the Peninsula Beverly Hills Hotel, David Lynch’s 35-millimeter Eraserhead film print sold for $40,000. His unfinished screenplays for the Ronnie Rocket movie were sold to the highest bidder for $150,000. An espresso machine owned by Lynch was auctioned off for $35,000.

“It’s going to be sad to see it go,” the auctioneer says as David Lynch’s personalized director’s chair sells for $70,000

The auctioneer at the historical event expressed that David Lynch’s chair had already become an attachment in the office:

“It’s going to be sad to see it go because it’s become a personal attachment in the office because it’s been there,”

Executive Director and co-founder of Julien’s Auctions, Martin Nolan, revealed to the press that Julien’s had estimated that the auction would bring in between $200,000 and $400,000. Still, the pre-auction bids of over a million had exceeded their expectations.

Mark Frost, who had worked with Lynch on Twin Peaks, stated that buying the director’s items was a way for fans to tap into the feeling his films produced. He also described the items offered up at the auction as meaningful:

"For somebody who was as spiritual as he was, he also really loved his tools, the things that helped him do his work. He had a fondness for good craftsmanship and that sort of bespoke work that goes into the making of things."
