Wicked: For Good - Release date, plot, cast and more about the fantasy sequel

Wicked: For Good will be a direct sequel to Jon M. Chu's Wicked, where fans get to know the origins of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good in the world of Oz. British actress Cynthia Erivo and American actress Ariana Grande play the two magical beings in the film.

There are likely to be more films in the series, including direct sequels and spin-offs taking place in Oz. Part one deals with how the two witches came to become friends, which involves a beautiful journey that seals their bond.

Part two will see them in a different role than simply a couple of Shiz University students, which also means that it could have a more serious tone to the film. We may even see a clash between them, although it might not be a willing one given the sisterhood they presented in the last movie.

Wicked: For Good will hit theatres in November 2025

The Jon M. Chu film directorial was first set to release on November 26, 2025, but then Universal Pictures decided to do that earlier, on November 21, 2025 to avoid clashing with Zootopia 2.

There's so much in the story that the creators couldn't simply have adapted it into a single movie. In one interview, Stephen Schwartz and Winnie said that they are interested in expanding this universe. However, they don't want the potential titles to include phrases like 'Part Three' or 'Part Four'.

Speculating about the Wicked: For Good plot

There are different speculations about the film's plot but at the base, it is going to be a different story. While both of them were forced to live as roommates on the Shiz University campus, they are likely to be forced to fight against each other now as they end up developing an unlikely bond.

It will be more like a hunt for The Wicked Witch of the West rather than her demise, as it was shown initially during the opening scene of the first film. Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and more are likely to get this order from the Wizard. This ties back to the part where they will be taking on this task to get what they seek.

Those who are aware of the source material are likely to get a lot of references from the source material. Dorothy Gale, who is basically central to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, will play a major part in the upcoming film.

The cast of Wicked: For Good

Much of the cast will return in the film. Central to it will be Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who will play the leads in Wicked: For Good. Jeff Goldblum will be returning as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Michelle Yeoh is to reprise the role of Madame Morrible.
