The new psychological thriller The Home will star Pete Davidson and is all set to release this summer. The SNL alumnus will headline The Purge director James DeMonaco’s new horror-thriller film, which will hit the theaters in July 2025 in the US.

This is not the first time Pete Davidson has been part of a horror project. He also starred in Bodies Bodies Bodies, a slasher horror-comedy directed by the Babygirl director Halina Rejin. However, unlike that project, James DeMonaco’s film feels like an out-and-out horror film that feels more in line with The Purge, following its characters' slow descent into madness.

The Home marks James DeMonaco's return to the genre after This Is the Night, a comedy-drama that followed a teenager in Staten Island, loosely based on the director's life. This marks his strong connection with his star Pete Davidson, who also worked on a semi-autographical film inspired by his life in Staten Island.

The film's logline reads,

"Max, a former foster child who begins working at a retirement home, only to discover that its residents and caretakers harbor sinister secrets."

Miramax (Bill Block and Sebastian K. Lemercier) produced this film while Lionsgate acquired its US distribution rights at the 2023 TIFF. Roadside Attractions also serves as a key distributor.

The Home is scheduled to be released on July 25, 2025, in the United States. It's a psychological horror-thriller film from The Purge director James DeMonaco, who shared the following statement about it:

“When I set out to create The Home, I aimed to capture the spine-chilling eeriness of 70’s horror, where suspense simmers and ultimately erupts into glorious chaos. Joining me is my Staten Island brother, Pete Davidson, who unveils a darker, dramatic side as his character navigates a bizarre group of residents in an old age home. The growing tension culminates in an epic blood-soaked finale, designed to leave audiences gasping, terrified, and cheering. I can’t wait for everyone to visit The Home. Cover your eyes, folks.”

What is the plot of The Home?

Its official plot synopsis reads,

"In this horror thriller from the creator of The Purge, a rebellious twentysomething is sentenced to community service at a quiet retirement home. The residents on the fourth floor are strictly off-limits, and said to require “special care.” As his suspicions grow and he digs deeper, he uncovers a chilling secret that puts both the residents’ lives and his own in grave danger."

Director James DeMonaco has co-written the script with Adam Cantor, who has worked on his previous projects as an actor.

The trailer, released on May 29, 2025, hints at a classic case of 'curiosity killed the cat.' The more Max tries to uncover the secrets of the fourth-floor people, the murkier it gets.
