Drake is set to release his latest studio album, Iceman, sometime in the upcoming year. DJ Akademiks has now suggested to the rapper from Canada that he should delay his album due to the ongoing split between YouTube and Billboard, with YouTube set to withdraw its streaming data from all Billboard charts.

DJ Akademiks stated in a livestream:

"If I'm Drake, I'm pushing my album back to March. Yo, the industry is beefing with itself. It is beefing itself cause of a bunch of things. Its beefing with itself because of bots... The labels are putting more pressure on everybody because streaming has become stagnant. What happens when streaming becomes stagnant? What happens when streaming becomes stagnant?..."

For context, Billboard recently changed the methodology of their charts, wherein paid streams will still be weighted more favorably compared to ad-supported streaming at a ratio of 1:2.5.

Following this announcement, YouTube made its above-mentioned decision to withdraw its streaming data from Billboard's US and global charts, stating:

"YouTube is where billions of fans worldwide connect with music, from official music videos and live streams to channels like NPR Tiny Desk. The incredible work artists do to build a community on YouTube and their massive fan engagement is being undervalued in Billboard’s charts."

The statement from YouTube continues:

"Billboard uses an outdated formula that weights subscription-supported streams higher than ad-supported... Streaming is the primary way people experience music, making up 84% of U.S. recorded music revenue."

The statement adds:

"We’re simply asking that every stream is counted fairly and equally, whether it is subscription-based or ad-supported—because every fan matters and every play should count. After a decade-long partnership and extensive discussions, they are unwilling to make meaningful changes. Therefore, after January 16, 2026, our data will no longer be delivered to Billboard or factored into their charts."

YouTube ended the statement by stating that they hoped to work with Billboard to return to their chart in the future and that YouTube is committed to achieving equitable representation in the charts.
