Apple TV has teased a new film, The Lost Bus, featuring multiple Oscar nominees and winners in it. Paul Greengrass is directing it with a screenplay from Brad Ingelsby, while Jamie Lee Curtis, Jason Blum, and Gregory Goodman are producing it. Ingelsby is also co-producing the movie.
The film is based on a real-life account written by Lizzie Johnson called Paradise: One Town's Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire after covering the 2018 Camp Fire in Northern California.
Its teaser shows Matthew McConaughey's and America Ferrera's characters in distress amid a developing situation in a town. Other than them, Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, Danny McCarthy, and more are in the film too.
Additionally, its synopsis (via IMDb) reads,
"Explores what went wrong in California's Camp Fire, the nation's deadliest wildfire in a century, and how to prevent future tragedies, also including stories of a bus driver and school teacher who helped through a wildfire."
Currently, there's no release date for The Lost Bus, but it will be available to stream as soon as it is released.
The Lost Bus teaser breakdown
It begins with a bus driver, Kevin McCay, whom McConaughey is portraying, and some radio chatter in the background asking for all the drivers around following a developing situation in town.
This is a rescue operation that Kevin pulled off after responding to a distress call telling them a number of children were stranded in Ponderosa Elementary while the monster fire gets bigger.
At first, Kevin appears in distress himself, implying the collision of the decision to let go of this or do the right thing. Those who have read about the Camp Fire already know this hero and what he did to get to those stranded kids. We eventually see him picking up the radio, though nothing is said, but this is likely to be that decisive moment.
Later, The Lost Bus teaser switches from ground to air, and we see a couple of planes flying towards the giant fire. A glimpse of this fire is presented in the next shot. That's so huge that viewers will know that this rescue operation was nothing short of a courageous show.
The last few remaining shots include America Ferrera, who is playing the schoolteacher Mary Ludwig, and a bus riding through a burning forest. This last scene is certain to make you sit on the edge of your seats.
How devastating was the 2018 Camp Fire?

The fire that began on the morning of November 8, 2018, kept burning for a couple of weeks and was contained on November 25. By then, it had destroyed 153,336 acres of land and displaced over 50k people living in different affected regions.
While The Lost Bus is the latest to feature this event, several documentaries have been made since. It includes This Old House (2020), which sees affected families beginning again after the fire. More documentaries on the event include Fire in Paradise (2019), Rebuilding Paradise (2020), Bring Your Own Brigade (2021), and more.
