The highly anticipated trailer of The Mandalorian and Grogu is an absolute treat for the Star Wars fans. The one-and-a-half-minute trailer is tightly packed with throwbacks, hidden details and lots of action.
With Sigourney Weaver in her role as a colonel in the New Republic, Stormtroopers guarding a mysterious structure, and Grogu’s sneaky attempt at using the Force, the audience gets quick glimpses into the upcoming Star Wars movie. The movie, directed by Jon Favreau, will also see Pedro Pascal reprising his role of Din Djarin aka The Mandalorian.
The hit Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, successfully ran for three seasons on the streaming platform. The movie will take the story forward after the fall of the Empire. As the New Republic takes control of the galaxy, Din Djarin and Grogu will be seen joining forces with them to fight the remnants of the Empire. The movie is slated to release on May 22, 2026.
The Mandalorian and Grogu: Exciting details in the trailer
Sigourney Weaver is part of the New Republic
There has been much buzz around Sigourney Weaver’s role in The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. In the trailer we finally see the former rebel pilot, who is now a colonel in the New Republic. She is seen meeting Din and Grogu, an indication of the them joining forces to fight the remaining Imperial leaders.
During an interview with GamesRadar+ earlier this year, Weaver had playfully stated that she took on the role to act alongside Grogu. She said,
"I get to have scenes with a little Grogu which is probably why I did the movie... And he's a little badass too. It's going to be wonderful for people to see what Grogu is up to now because he's grown up a little bit and is capable of much more than maybe we think just watching the series."
She further shared about her role,
"I play a wonderful character who is, you know, in a position of authority. And I have to send the Mandalorian out on a mission on the Outer Rim where all the bad stuff happens."
Jabba’s son Rotta the Hutt is taking centerstage
Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt appears in a blink and you miss moment in the trailer. Son of Jabba the Hutt, Rotta the Hutt is seen in a huge arena surrounded by cheering spectators. Jabba was known as one of the more notorious criminals in the galaxy and going by the showmanship of Rotta, we can expect his son to carry the mantle.
Stormtroopers are guarding a structure
Star Wars fans were quick to notice the fleeting scene involving Stormtroopers as they are seen working in an undisclosed miliary base. They are seen guarding a huge structure. The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer shows Din and Grogu snooping around the area with binoculars. The heavy presence of Stormtroopers indicate that they are guarding something of great significance.
Anzellans are on a spacecraft with Grogu
Anzellan alien species make their presence felt in The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer. A few of the Anzellans are seen flying a spacecraft with Grogu, probably on a mission. Babu Frik, who belonged to the same species, had appeared in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker as a black-market workshop worker.
The intimidating Zeb Orrelios is here
Zeb Orrelios was one of the more memorable characters from Star Wars Rebels, who is seen in the trailer fighting Stormtroopers. His larger-than-life appearance along with his signature Bo-rifle, makes him a standout character. Zeb Orrelios also had a brief role in The Mandalorian Season 3. He will add much needed action to The Mandalorian and Grogu, alongside Din and Grogu.
AT-AT’s are coming back
One of the biggest throwbacks in the trailer is the Empire’s menacing AT-ATs (All Terrain Armored Transport). The gigantic four-legged Imperial combat vehicles are as unnerving as they look and has made a lasting impression on other Star Wars ventures including The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Though it appears only for a few seconds amidst the snowy mountains, the enormity of the Imperial presence and the threat that awaits the New Republic is clearly evident.
Grogu attempts to use the Force
Within a few seconds of the The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer, we are treated with a scene where Grogu tries to use his force to bring a bowl towards him. But Sigourney Weaver immediately stops the bowl from moving, disappointing Grogu. The trailer also makes it certain that the audience will get to see Grogu use the force more frequently through the movie.
The logline for the movie as per StarWars.com states,
“The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu (as himself).”
Watch all three seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+. The Mandalorian and Grogu movie will open in theatres on May 22, 2026.
