It took almost three decades for it to get there, but the Police Squad! vibes were already there.
We finally have the fourth film in the critically acclaimed franchise, The Naked Gun, and fortunately, Leslie Nielsen was also a part of it, though not in person, but in our memories, and also in a frame. Liam Neeson stepped up as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., son of Lieutenant Frank Drebin, a role Nielsen made iconic by playing it from 1982 to 1994.
The latest film has been met with rave reviews (a 90% RT score as of this writing), and people are loving the chemistry between Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson in the movie.
Even if you haven't seen the original TV series and films in this spoof comedy franchise, don't worry, we have got your back. You can see the list of the movies below in their chronological order (which is also their release order).
We are including the films only, so make sure that you watch the seed from which these comic flowers bloomed, Police Squad!.
The Naked Gun movies in order
The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988)

After you have watched the six episodes of Police Squad!, you know that Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. is the finest officer and comedian. The first film in the franchise follows the bumbling officer Frank, whose bumbling partner, Norberg (O. J. Simpson), is shot, and now the clueless detective has to find the person who pulled the trigger. It was a critical and commercial success, as it currently holds an 88% score at Rotten Tomatoes and made $152 million globally on a $15 million budget.
The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991)

Frank's next adventure came out after three years with this film, which took an eco-friendly twist. Here, some people are conspiring against Dr. Albert S. Meinheimer (Richard Griffiths) to disrupt his sustainable plans, but Drebin becomes a problem. It made $192 million at the global box office against a $23 million budget and currently sits fresh with a 77% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult (1994)

The third film in the franchise saw Nielsen's Frank Drebin going about a retired life, but soon called back for a mission. The film goes full Hollywood as the franchise protagonist goes undercover to disrupt a terrorist's plan to bomb an Oscar ceremony. Ironically, the only celebrity-cameo-filled movie holds the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score. However, it wasn't a failure, as it sits with 65% critics' approval there. This again was a commercial success, as it swiped $132 million at the global box office.
The Naked Gun (2025)
And finally, we have the latest Liam Neeson-led film in the franchise. If you think Liam Neeson reading a bedtime story is funny, you have no idea the set of comical skills this man has. We won't spoil the plot of The Naked Gun for you and just say, "Woop-woop! that's the sound of da police."
Lastly, we have to ask you, did you notice the similarities between the names Liam Neeson and Leslie Nielsen?
