It's been nearly seven years since a Spike Lee feature film received a wide theatrical release. Premiered in 2018, BlacKkKlansman also earned him his first Oscar after being in the industry for over four decades. It felt like a long time coming for someone who has directed projects like Malcolm X, Crooklyn, and Do the Right Thing, to name a few.
Highest 2 Lowest marks his return for a feature directorial role since Da 5 Bloods, which was initially planned to be released in theaters, but ended up only on streaming. Five years later, Spike Lee gets back to directing his fifth collaboration with Denzel Washington. It's a bold project that feels deeply tied to New York, filled with the city's restless energy and charm.
That has often been the case with Spike Lee's films, which are usually set in New York and Brooklyn. Apart from his love for the city, people also know him for his love for the New York Knicks. He is often seen as the biggest Hollywood fan of the basketball team. Yet, in recent years, someone has been supporting the team as passionately as he has. It's the Dune star Timothée Chalamet.
When asked about the presence of this fellow Knicks fan, Spike Lee had nothing but good things to say about the young actor. During a conversation with Bill Simmons on his podcast, the filmmaker said,
“Look, [Timothée Chalamet] is a good guy, he’s a real [Knicks] fan, he’s a great actor, and we’ve talked about doing a film together once his schedule clears up. — The next four or five years.”
What is Timothée Chalamet working on?

Spike Lee reveals that he is open to working with Timothée Chalamet shortly, "once his schedule clears up." He also hints that they have spoken about this topic and are mutually interested in collaborating on a film.
At the moment, Timothée Chalamet is busy with two of his upcoming projects. The first is the Denis Villeneuve epic, Dune: Part Three, while the next is Marty Supreme, co-written and directed by Josh Safdie.
The latter film has finished production and is awaiting its Christmas Day release. However, Villeneuve's third adaptation of Frank Herbert's novels is being filmed. It's one of the most anticipated projects on Chalamet's radar, which means he might be busy with the film even after the crew wraps up production.
The Hollywood Reporter also mentions that the actor will collaborate again with James Mangold on his latest film, High Side. That will likely keep him busy for an even longer duration.
What else is Spike Lee working on?

Spike Lee's latest rags-and-riches neo-noir, Highest 2 Lowest, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Three months later, the film is being theatrically released in the US by A24 before its streaming debut on Apple TV+.
After this Denzel Washington collaboration, the filmmaker is reportedly working on two more projects, as per THR. The first is Prince of Cats, said to be a retelling of the Romeo & Juliet romance, while the latter is Da Understudy, said to be set in the world of Broadway, as per IMDb.
Highest 2 Lowest, directed by Spike Lee, releases in theaters on August 15.
