Immortal mercenaries are armoring up for another round of intense action as The Old Guard 2 sets a July Netflix premiere date. It won't be long before Andy aka Andromache of Scythia will be back, but the only problem this time—she is no longer an immortal.

As Grey Rucka (who wrote the original novel and also worked on the screenplay for the sequel) recently confirmed the same in an interview with Netflix, saying:

"We ended the first film with some radical changes to the status quo. Andy’s mortality has mysteriously left her."

The first part of the story ended with Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts portrays) facing banishment on the grounds of betrayal. Andy and the other three (Joe, Nile & Nicky) have a conversation with Coopley on how the CIA can team up with them in the days to come. However, Booker's accidental encounter with Quynh leaves a big twist—probably from where the sequel will pick up the plot.

When will The Old Guard 2 be released?

On July 2, 2025, The Old Guard 2 will exclusively air on Netflix. The long-awaited sequel went into production back in 2022 and was mostly filmed in Italy. Some sequences of the film were also shot in the United Kingdom.

The official synopsis of The Old Guard 2, per IMDb, reads:

"Andy leads immortal warriors against a powerful enemy threatening their group. They grapple with the resurfacing of a long-lost immortal, complicating their mission to safeguard humanity. "

The story will pick up from where the first movie ended. Quynh resurfaces (as a major threat) after a long hiatus, and Andy, having recently lost her immortality and regenerative abilities, is going at full force to gather the old team. On the other hand, Booker is still serving his sentence in exile and leads a lonely, drunken life.

Their main motto is to find a redefined purpose and new ways to safeguard the common people. With a fresh danger lurking around the corner, Andy seeks help from a new member, Tuah (Henry Golding portrays). How Tuah fits into the story is yet to be revealed, but the stakes will be much higher this time for Andy and her team.

Who is in the cast of The Old Guard 2?

Lead star Charlize Theron will reprise her role as Andromache of Scythia, better known as Andy, in The Old Guard 2. She will be joined by returning cast members Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli, who will reprise their roles as Joe (Yusuf Al-Kaysani) and Nicky (Nicolò di Genoa), respectively.

Matthias Schoenaerts will also reprise his role as Booker aka Sebastian Le Livre and KiKi Layne returns in the part of Nile Freeman. Among others in the cast, we have:

  • Henry Golding in the role of Tuah (new addition)
  • Uma Thurman (role not specified yet)
  • Chiwetel Ejiofor plays the part of James Copley (recurring)
  • Ngô Thanh Vân in the role of Quỳnh (reprising)

Per Tudum, Rucka reportedly described the immortals in a statement, saying:

"What I find most fascinating about these immortal characters is that fundamentally, they all face the same questions we do: ‘What am I doing here? What is the purpose of my life?’"
