Charlize Theron is finally returning as Andy in The Old Guard 2, almost five years after the original dropped on Netflix. The official poster has been unveiled, and it shows her in a potential war zone. The tagline reads:
“Eternity has a price.”
The Old Guard 2 poster shows Theron as Andy, standing on her knees, holding her combat axe. It hints that she is in the middle of another war-like scenario, considering all the bruises on her face and body. The entire background is covered with smoke to the point you can't see anything else besides a helicopter just behind her.
It puts the viewers right in the heat of the moment and makes it known that things are about to get darker in The Old Guard 2. When asked about this upcoming sequel by the streamer, Theron said:
“There’s something for everyone in this movie: Fans who loved the first film, fans who love the original graphic novels — and brand-new fans who are looking for insane action, grounded and relatable characters, gorgeous locations, and a global cast of superstars.”
What happens in The Old Guard on Netflix?
Released in 2020, The Old Guard is based on the graphic novel series by Greg Rucka, who also wrote the screenplay. The film was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.
The 2020 film followed a close-knit group of seemingly eternal mercenaries who enter a mission to protect their powers from getting into the wrong hands. Charlize Theron's Andy led the film while Matthias Schoenaerts and KiKi Layne starred in the key roles of Booker and Nile.
While speaking about the first film with Netflix, Rucka said:
“We ended the first film with some radical changes to the status quo. Andy’s mortality has mysteriously left her, Nile has become immortal and joined the group, and Booker’s been punished for his sins by being sent into exile, which is pretty much the worst thing you can do to people who live for hundreds and hundreds of years. What I find most fascinating about these immortal characters is that fundamentally, they all face the same questions we do: ‘What am I doing here?What is the purpose of my life?’”

Charlize Theron, who reprises her role in The Old Guard 2, recently said that the sequel is about to bring an array of new characters:
“We’re going to meet some brand-new characters. Quyhn is back and her story continues, and we’re all excited to have Uma Thurman and Henry Golding join us as two key new players in the Old Guard universe. Andy and her warriors are back with a renewed sense of purpose. The stakes are even higher now that Andy is mortal and can die — but that certainly won’t keep her out of the action.”
