The distributor company of the film, Angel Studios, has just dropped the official trailer for The Senior. Going by its trailer, the film promises to be a heartwarming and poignant tale, along with its social significance.

The trailer gives us a sneak peek into its world, where Mike Flynt is striving to find a satisfying conclusion to his unfinished business. The purpose is rooted in his identity and passion. Mike Flynt is an aging man who is now trying to get back to his college football team and play. However, his teammates are all young people.

He defies all odds and societal norms, amidst challenges thrown at him due to his aging and fragile physical body. In fact, in the trailer, we witness a moment at a crucial time when Mike is challenged about whether he should be putting up with the intense physical demands of the game. If his health is compromised in the process, his and his team's future will be deeply sabotaged.

Throughout the trailer, we get to hear glimpses of how people around him respond to Mike's grueling efforts and football skills, as the lines go like:

"How are you doing this at your age, man?"

And also:

"He's like a 59-year-old Rudy"

Mike also has a strong family support system, which includes his wife and his son. So this journey is not only about Mike the footballer, but also Mike the husband and the father.

The helmer of The Senior is Rod Lurie, whose previous directorials include Deterrence (1999), The Contender (2000), Nothing but the Truth (2008), Killing Reagan (2016), The Outpost (2019), and many more. While speaking to Variety, Lurie spoke about what the film stands for:

“I love football — everything about it: the intensity, the strategies, the artfulness of the athleticism… but mostly, I am imbued with it as a metaphor for playing to the final whistle. That, you see, is what the story of Mike Flynt fully represents."

The Senior will be released on September 19, 2025. Along with Michael Chiklis, the film also stars Mary Stuart Masterson, Rob Corddry, Brandon Flynn, Corey Knight, and many more.
