  • Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach
  • Jack Black as Bowser
  • Keegan-Michael Key as Toad

In a Gamesradar interview, Aaron Horvath spoke about The Super Mario Bros. Movie. He said,

"It's a bit of an origin tale. It's the story of Mario becoming Super Mario. When you play the game, if you don’t give up, Mario will succeed. So we transferred that player experience from the game to a characteristic that [movie] Mario would have."

He further spoke about Chris Pratt's casting in the lead role.

"For us, it made total sense. He's really good at playing a blue-collar hero with a ton of heart. For the way that Mario is characterized in our film, he’s perfect for it."

Pratt spoke to Today, where he shared how he got emotional seeing the film for the first time.

“You don’t always know what these movies are going to look like, certainly in animation. You lend your voice over the course of a couple of years, and then you sit back and you watch the movie. It was really beautiful not just because we all worked so hard on it, but also it was just gratifying to know that we had made something really extraordinary.”

The character received some heat on the internet because of how Pratt removed the original high-pitched Italian style of speaking for Mario.

Super Mario World will be released on April 3, 2026.
