The Witcher alumni, Henry Cavill, who played Geralt of Rivia on the show for three seasons, was one of the actors who was speculated to be selected as the next James Bond. Given his diverse acting career, height, and physique, he was considered a suitable candidate, along with others like Cilian Murphy, Tom Hardy, and Idris Elba.

However, recent reports suggest that Cavill doesn't fit into the criteria for the next James Bond. While he is a successful actor, known for projects like The Witcher and Man of Steel, Cavill is likely not the man director Denis Villeneuve is envisioning as the next James Bond.

The Witcher alumni Henry Cavill is most likely not the next James Bond

The next James Bond film is scheduled to start filming in 2027, after Villeneuve is done with Dune: Part Three. He will then also cast James Bond, and thus there isn't yet a confirmation on who it is going to be. According to a report by Deadline, sources close to the film have said that Villeneuve is looking for a

And a British man who is

"possibly in their late 20s or early 30s,"

This automatically cancels out frontrunners like The Witcher star Henry Cavill, Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, and Idris Elba, who are all in their forties or fifties. This new criteria for James Bond might be because Amazon MGM wants to sign an actor as James Bond for the long haul, so that the actor can play the character for at least a few years to come and still fit the role.

The Deadline report also states that sources close to the discussions regarding the film said,

“Whoever it is, has to look like he could kill you with his bare hands in a trice. From the moment you see him, that has to be readily apparent,”

Thus this criteria would easily fit Cavill, who is known for his broad physique, and strong built, but unfortunately due to the fresh face and age criteria, he will probably not make the cut. We will most likely see a young actor with a strong built, rugged look, who hasn't been in too many projects play the next Bond. Sources also say that the new film will not pick up from where the last Bond film left off, and will focus on a new story, with a new look. As Deadline reported, the source said,

“It’s a new Bond, a new start, a fresh everything,”

Amy Pascal and David Heyman are executive producers on the film, while Denis Villeneuve is the director. Pascal Pictures and Heyday Films are producing the film and Steven Knight, the writer behind Peaky Blinders, is writing the film.

While there aren't high chances of Henry Cavill playing the next James Bond, you can see him play Geralt in the first three seasons of The Witcher on Netflix. As for the next Bond film, it will be filmed in 2027, and is scheduled for a 2028 release.
