The Golden Globes are officially stepping into a new genre. It has caught the attention of audiences, nominees, and critics across the industry. The Golden Globes announced the full list of film, television, and podcast nominations this week.

The Golden Globes adding a Best Podcast category seemingly comes with an acknowledgment of how audiences now consume content and entertainment in an era where streaming, short-form content, and other digital formats are seeing a notable rise.

The announcement of nominations for the 2026 Golden Globes was shared on Monday morning live from the Beverly Hilton. Marlon Wayans and Skye P. Marshall revealed this year's Golden Globes nominees across categories.

Notably, the introduction of the podcast category at the 2026 Golden Globes was not part of the televised portion. However, it has now become one of the most discussed topics related to the upcoming Golden Globes 2026 awards.

During and after the reveal, the Golden Globes producers spoke about this year's ceremony. As executive producer Glenn Weiss explained, this year's telecast is part of a significant rebuild. Speaking about the Best Podcast category, Weiss stated there could be a significant on-air moment related to this new addition:

"I hope they all show up. I think it's a perfectly appropriate thing to fit in this type of show, which is celebrating multiple genres. So that said, How are we doing it? We are going to give them a Golden Globe, like everybody else. But there might be a little fun way to get into it, which you will just have to tune in on January 11 to see."

The first-ever Best Podcast nominees at the 2026 Golden Globes

The 2026 nominees for Best Podcast are:

  • Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard
  • Call Her Daddy
  • Good Hang with Amy Poehler
  • The Mel Robbins Podcast
  • SmartLess
  • Up First

Speaking about the Best Podcast nominees, 2026 Golden Globes producer Glenn Weiss mentioned:

"I was sitting there so uneasy, thinking to myself, 'Wow, she got some really easy names, and he got all the hard names together!' But, you know, that's proof that we don't know what the nominations are!"

Skye P. Marshall added:

"I love the festival season, and so a lot of the buzzworthy projects and creatives were already top on my list as far as my projections, because I am a fan. So when the Golden Globes called to ask me to actually say the nominee names on television, I was extremely nervous. I was terrified, but equally, I was excited to see if my projections panned out."

She continued:

"And I would say around 75% of them did… I just don't like not knowing people’s names. Because I value the breakthrough, I want to make sure I am saying Lee Byung-Hun properly and with confidence. Because I know his work, not just because I learned the pronunciation."
