Kevin Costner will continue to work on his dream of bringing a proper history of the Old West, or what is usually known as the Wild West of America, with Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2. We can't say when the next chapter in the series will arrive. But we now know that it's progressing.
Danny Huston, who plays Col. Albert Houghton in the film, recently appeared in an interview with ScreenRant, where he dropped a small but significant update on the project. He said,
"Yes, I am absolutely bated breath anticipating. I can't wait to see the second chapter. It's such a big document, an epic dream of a film. It's like a steam engine that's coming at us, and it won't stop. There's no stopping it. But it's working at its own pace."
Other than Costner and Huston, Avatar's Sam Worthington, Sneaky Pete's Giovanni Ribisi, The Hunger Games' Jena Malone, and more are in the film.
The first chapter in the series was released on June 28, 2024, and wasn't really a critical or commercial success. However, it became a streaming success on Netflix earlier this year.
We are yet to get that official announcement for Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2, but it seems the project is going through some troubles. One of them came recently that involved New Line Cinema and Costner's Territory Pictures.
Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2 had a similar reception to its prequel

Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2 had a premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on September 7, 2024. Later, it premiered this year at the 40th Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Those who have seen it have given it an average rating, similar to the first film in the series.
Chapter 1 holds a 50% critics' approval according to Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer. The audience's score is better in that comparison, with a 70% approval on the Popcornmeter. On IMDb, the film has gotten 6.6 stars from users.
For Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2, the Tomatometer shows 54% critic approval as of this writing, while the Popcornmeter just doesn't have enough user reviews to give it a score. However, the film does have a better score on IMDb and is currently sitting with 7.1 stars.
Whenever the film arrives, it certainly has to do better than the first one. Costner has already spent around $100 million on the two films, where each film reportedly was made on a $50 million budget.
The first film didn't even cover its budget. So, Costner is hoping that Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2 does better than just breaking even, probably covering the costs of Chapter 1's commercial failure.
There are still a couple of chapters left after this: Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 3 and Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 4. Details about these upcoming projects are scarce, but the former has entered production, and the latter is still in development.
