Horizon: An American Saga is a film series in the epic western genre. It is a four-part film series, with the first installment, Chapter 1, released on June 28, 2024. Kevin Costner is the director, producer, and one of the actors of the series. He also co-wrote it with Jon Baird. Chapter 2, which is the second part of the series, has been delayed.
Recently, one of the series’ actors, Glynn Turman, spoke about its current status. Speaking about the filming, he said:
"I think there was a temporary shutdown."
Let's explore what exactly he said.
Horizon: An American Saga actor talks about the delay
Glynn Turman, who stars in Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga, spoke about the series’ status. In an interview with Screen Rant, he revealed that filming for the third part had begun.
"They started filming Part 3. I don’t know if they’ve continued it. I think there was a temporary shutdown and I don’t know if they went back, but Part 2, I can’t wait to see. It’s kind of frustrating on my part, everybody’s part that’s connected, but I love Part 1 as well. I’m glad you did as well. It takes us back to old-fashioned moviemaking and watching stories and Kevin is one of the best at doing that, so my hat’s off to him. What a bold move he made."
When asked if he had heard from the makers about the second part, he said:
"Not a thing."
Horizon: An American Saga has been facing one roadblock after another. It started after the makers changed the original release date of Chapter 2 back in the summer of 2024. After the first Chapter reportedly did not manage to break even or recover its budget, the makers decided to change Costner's plan of releasing the films within six weeks of one another. Made on a budget of $50 million, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 managed to gross only $38.7 million.
The makers started shooting the third part even before the first one had been released. Production was paused following the 2023 Hollywood strike. In September 2024, Costner spoke about the series' future.
“If there’s anything that you expect from Part 2, you realize that 2 gets harder than 1. It’s hard to go west. Three is the same thing. It gets harder. But I will tell you this, Chapter 3 is devastating. It’s devastating because you begin to know all these people and life keeps coming at them, and you will see that. I have to hurry and not let the rock fall back downhill. I’ve gotta go put my hands on it again and start to push it up. It’s a rope that I cannot let go of. I don’t know how I’m gonna make 3 right now, but I’m gonna make it.”
The first film was produced by Costner, Mark Gillard and Howard Kaplan. After a premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, the film was released on June 28, 2024.
