These 5 reasons set The Dark Knight Trilogy apart from other Batman movies (& it's obviously in a good way)

The Dark Knight is a film that redefined the superhero genre. One can divide the cinema times between pre- and post-Dark Knight. This film and the entire trilogy gave another grammar to this genre and how a story could be told. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the trilogy began with a proper origin story of Batman, which was not even mentioned in Bob Kane's comic books.

It then moved to a film that gave us one of the greatest cinema villains of all time, the Joker. The franchise then concluded on a massive and satisfactory note with The Dark Knight Rises.

5 reasons why The Dark Knight Trilogy is better than other Batman movies

Here is a list of five reasons that, according to me, make The Dark Knight Trilogy miles apart from other Batman movies out there.

1) Batman gets an origin story

One of the most interesting aspects of Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins is how it sets the origin story of the Caped Crusader. The comic book mentions the death of Bruce Wayne's character, but doesn't dig deep into his life after that. Nolan did an excellent job of showcasing how he was raised and his need to fight injustice.

2) The Villains are classier than previous iterations

A lot of the trilogy's success can be attributed to Heath Ledger's performance as Joker in The Dark Knight. It even earned him a posthumous Oscar win. This villain was way better than all the villains from the previous Batman films put together. Earlier, makers came up with cartoonish and unintentionally funny bad guys. But Nolan handled it with more seriousness. Some other villains in the trilogy, like Bane, Scarecrow, and Ra's Al Ghul, are also worth mentioning.

3) Thrilling Action Sequences and Set Pieces

All three films in the franchise contain massive amounts of action sequences and stunts that viewers have enjoyed over the years. One of my favorites has to be the truck flip from the 2008 film, as well as one plane hanging from the other in TDKR. It's fascinating to think that they were all done practically with minimum use of visual effects. These stunts add up to the story and make the overall trilogy a cinematic experience one can't afford to miss.

4) The Trilogy Features Quotable Clapworth Dialogues

There are so many dialogues from the trilogy that have become a part of pop culture and are often used on the internet. Some of those catchphrases include "Why so serious?" and "If you're good at something, never do it for free." The writing, by Christopher Nolan, Jonathan Nolan, and David S. Goyer, remains classy and doesn't go into campy territory. Before Nolan's version, Batman films and shows were known for their campiness, which Nolan shed.

5) Gotham feels more real than ever

The Dark Knight trilogy features Gotham City, which genuinely feels like a real city. Most installments of Batman had the city as a dystopian gutter place. The makers earlier followed the source material to ensure realism in the city. But Nolan put in the effort into world-building, resulting in a living, breathing city where different characters inhabit.
