Dakota Johnson, who was recently seen as the love interest of a millionaire and an aspiring actor in Materialists, was at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) in the Czech Republic. While talking to the press, she shared her interests other than acting, and it seems like we will soon see her directing a feature film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

She said,

"I think I will direct a feature, a very small one, hopefully soon. And it’s really close to my heart and very close to TeaTime. We’re making it with Vanessa Burghardt, who played my daughter in Cha Cha Real Smooth. She’s an incredible autistic actress."

Johnson isn't very confident about directing a movie, but she can do it with Vanessa, as she feels protective around her, as mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter.

Though she hasn't directed a feature film before, she directed a short film called Loser Baby. Moreover, she had also co-directed Coldplay's Cry Cry Cry from the album Everyday Life before this.

She also shared her perspective on a movie's success, which isn't based on its commercial success but on how a particular story affects the viewers—that is, how they feel watching it.

The actress saw her breakthrough with the 2015 film Fifty Shades of Grey. After that, she went on to star in several films, including Black Mass, A Bigger Splash (both released in 2015), Bad Times at the El Royale (2018), and more. But other than acting, she has been attached to a few films as a producer too.

In Cha Cha Real Smooth (2022), she was one of the co-producers of the film, besides portraying Domino. It is about a boy who gets involved with a 32-year-old mom after meeting her during a bar mitzvah. The film is currently sitting fresh with an 85% critics' approval.

Am I OK?, where the actress played Lucy and which was released in the same year, again saw Dakota Johnson as a co-producer. The film was again a critical success and holds an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing.

The following year, in 2023, Dakota Johnson narrated a Nicole Newnham-directed documentary called The Disappearance of Shere Hite. She was an executive producer here. It's one of the few projects to have a 100% critics’ approval on Rotten Tomatoes. Out of all the nominations, the film won just one of the awards: the Cinema Eye Honors.

She then appeared alongside Sean Penn in Daddio in 2023, where she played a passenger who unexpectedly enters an honest conversation with her cab driver. She was a co-producer in it too.

Additionally, Dakota Johnson is also co-producing her upcoming film Splitsville, which is a fun movie about a couple of couples who get into conflict following an unprecedented event. The film will be released on August 22, 2025.

Lastly, she will be co-producing the upcoming Michael Showalter film, Verity, where she is also starring alongside Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett. It will be released next year, with Amazon MGM Studios distributing it.
